Words cannot describe my night last night.
Amazing is an understatement
To start off, we showed up at the venue around 5:50 or so, and sat down in the already packed lawn seats. We played a few hands of poker, then an employee there came up to us, gave us free tickets to move up to the seated section (we were like, ten rows back from the stage or so!).
Then the show began, it opened with "The Crane Wife Pt 1 and 2", which sounded as beautiful as ever. The orchestra backing up the band made it just absolutely stunning. Each time Colin sang "And all the stars were crashing around As I laid eyes on what I'd found", chills were sent up my spine.
The Infanta came next, and was just great. It started to rain quite a bit during the song, which just added the epic feel of the song.
Colin did a little intro to the song "We Will Both Go Down Together", describing how it was one of their multiple songs, that are about "star crossed lovers" and such. Beautiful song
Bagmans Gambit and Odalisque came up next, still being backed with the orchestra. Sounded beautiful, especially Bagmans Gambit.
The Orchestra took a little break, while the band went into play The Perfect Crime #2. During the performance, Colin got down, off the stage, and proceeded to run up and down the aisles, high-fiving various audience members, and even picking up a few of them!
Los Angeles, I'm Yours and The Tain were played, both sounded great. A lot of thundering occured during The Tain, which made it sound really neat. added a lot of atmosphere to it.
O Valencia! was next, and of course it got everybody up on their feet, and clapping along with the song. Good song, great performance of it as well.
Afterward, Colin announced they were down to their last song "I was meant for the stage", and they played it. A few people started to clear out, but the rest of the audience knew they were going to come back out, and they did!
The encore consisted of 16 Military Wives and The Mariners Revenge Song.
16 Military wives was great. Colin asked that all the people (including the lawn seat people!) move up to the very front of the stage.
Mariners Revenge Song called for the audience to sound like they were being "eaten alive by a whale", whenever the guitarist (Chris Funk), made the motion of a whales mouth closing. It was great.
Not to mention that it started lightning heavily during the song, which added just so, so much to it.
Beautiful Show, unforgettable night. If you get the chance to see this band, go.
