ACTIVE CHILD

For Pat Grossi of Active Child, the last two years have been nothing short of enriching. Musically, Pat has worked within and appropriated a number of styles into his sound, from his early days singing with that heavenly voice as a choir boy to his more recent forays into laptop-assisted indie-pop made in his bedroom, best exemplified on 2010’s acclaimed Curtis Lane EP. His sound is so wide-ranging that he has found himself touring with many notable acts of differing genres, including dubstep producer James Blake, dreamy synth-pop of School of Seven Bells, and the indie-rock bands White Lies and White Rabbits. Nothing quite prepares you for the leap that Pat has taken with his debut album, You Are All I See. Recently, he has expanded his sonic ambitions and turned the studio into an instrument for a record that sounds cosmically huge and yet intimate all the same.

NZCA/LINES

Originally conceived as a guitar-based project, NZCA/Lines evolved into a suave, synth-pop sensation that combines pop melodies with r&b beats, lush arrangements with multi-layered harmonies. With the assistance of producer (and loaf label-mate) Charlie Alex march and mixer ash workman (Simian Mobile Disco, Metronomy, etc.), main-man Michael Lovett (ex bassist of Your Twenties) delivers one of the year's most thrilling debut albums. From the opening notes it's clear that a unique and beautiful talent is at work. Something about the clarity of the arrangements, the crisp harmonies and insidious melodies sets NZCA/Lines apart. Shimmering slices of dream-pop the likes of which have not been heard since Scritti Politti's 'Cupid and Psyche', follow one after another to create a future world rooted in timeless magic.

FEAR OF MEN

Fear of Men was born when Jess (Vocals+ Guitar) had been writing and home recording ambient songs as soundtracks to short films and Daniel (Guitar) attended an exhibition of her work. The two began swapping mixtapes and started a project based on a shared love of melody and an eclectic mix of artists such as Eric's Trip, Grouper, Daniel Johnston, The Pixies and The Chills. The early demos that resulted from this collaboration created the ‘Hanna Shygulla Demos’, released by Sex Is Disgusting in February 2011, before the band’s debut 7”, ‘Ritual Confession’, was released on Italian Beach Babes in August of that year. Before the year’s end the band self-released the ‘Alice Munro Demos’, which featured the acclaimed track ‘Doldrums’, in support of their co-headline tour around the UK with Bos Angeles. Joining Jess and Daniel in the group are Alex on bass and Mike on drums. A new single is due for release in June 18th on Sexbeat Recordings.
