The concert centrepiece is Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, which expertly combines elements of classical and jazz music. This 1946 version for piano and orchestra has become one of the most popular American concert works. Conductor Stefan Hofkes will perform the solo piano part (alongside virtuoso soloist You-Chiung Lin) while directing us from the keyboard, in this version for 4 hands on one piano.
To show off the myriad tone colours in a symphony orchestra we are delighted to present Britten’s Young Person’s Guide, brilliantly written around a theme by Henry Purcell.
This family-friendly concert also features music used by the entertainment media so you are sure to have a few "Where have I heard that?" moments.
There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Jessie May Trust.
Tickets £15, £13, £10, £8 (concessions £2 discount), children £1 are available online at www.bristolconcertorchestra.org.uk
