So, before I talk about the last two concerts, let me post a couple random asides:

At the end of spring break I went to the local liquor store to pick up a bottle of wine for my girlfriend who was coming back from Arizona. While in there, they were playing Is There a Ghost. This is not the strangest story I have.

That would be the other day when I went to get some crystal light and water from Kroger (Payless for you Indiananans)... and what should I hear over the speaker but the sweet strains of Space Age Love Song. I didn't know that anyone was legal allowed to admit that Flock of Seagulls songs besides I Ran existed.

So at the end of February, Ben Folds came and played at Elliot Hall. His opening act was Eef Barzelay. As Purdue is apparently primarily attended by douchebags (or maybe it's just Ben Folds fans? but I don't think that's as true), Eef did not receive a very positive reception. He was definitely playing a little over his head…

the shows at the tour went on got better and better. I think it was probably just a matter of loosening up and getting used to being in front of all these fucking people. New stuff is fantastic. I know I'm pretty biased- but so are all y'all. Cause this is a Folds comm. So you should be a fan if you're reading this. Overall for the tour the sets were short. For Ben shows at least. Ranging in the low 20s instead of SUPERMAN powers of nearly 30 songs that I've seen in my day... these were only my 16, 17, 18, and 19th Folds shows. ONLY. And don't think I would have done all four if it hadn't been for new tunes. Otherwise it would have been; trusted, bastard, you to thank, gone.... etc..... again. but there is new music. which is such a good thing!

Speaking of losing things in Indiana. …

I really enjoyed the show, I had already seen Ben live, and this was a different experience. It might of been that the last time I saw him it was just him and no band. It was almost like being at a Ben Folds Five show rather than just Ben Folds. There were a lot of new songs played, and they sounded really good to me. Its just always weird to be at a show and not know the words. They played a lot of classic songs, in particular I was happy about Underground, which is one of my favorite BFF songs. I was shocked at a few omissions though, such as Brick and Philosophy, but there were still a lot of good songs played, and where was Rock This Bitch? The highlight of the evening had to be when they played Bitches Ain't Shit. So overall I really enjoyed the show.

The opening band/guy, Eef Barzelay was not that good in my opinion, but he wasn't that bad either.

What can I say? This was pretty much your standard Ben show. Always fun. Heard five or six new songs, including two that aren't on the Nashville boot, so that means I've already heard at least half the new record, maybe more. I can't wait to hear some of the lighter tracks and hope the subjects he's writing about are... hm. I don't want to say better, but. Ben seems to be losing his falsetto a little. He escaped under tunnels directly after the show so it seems. We waited an hour in the freezing anyway. Ah well.

    19/10.
