Oh, those strange Russians… What do we know about them? Bears, vodka and black caviar? Best figure-skaters, gorgeous Russian models dating with Hollywood celebrities, Russian Forbes Top 100 businessmen dating with top models? Diplomatic “marriage” of Putin and Medvedev, #1 YouTube hit — stupid wordless trololo-song by Eduard Hill… OK, that’s very interesting but we want you to learn something completely different about Russia.
Logically, if there are a lot of beautiful models in Russia — there should be clubs they visit. If there are a lot of night clubs — there should be some DJs to play. Yep, it’s true: we have a huge number of DJs in Russia. Russia is a club country for almost 25 years. Maybe you’ll be surprised but there is one of the world’s biggest electronic music events here — Kazantip Republic. Maybe you’ll be surprised again but it exists for 18 years already.
Kazantip Republic can be easily compared with Ibiza or Burning Man. As well as Ibiza there is a wide range of various parties and open airs 24/7. As well as Burning Man there is some kind of art projects, a community of crazy people. There is a space where they can totally express themselves: DJs, musicians and sound producers, video artists, designers, performers, freaks and beautiful almost naked girls. Stop, it seems that we forgot about wonderful sunburnt sportsmen — there is always a perfect weather for kitesurfing. Oh, yes, there’s a sea at Kazantip! Oficially it is called Black Sea but we believe it’s incredibly blue and clean.
Why Republic? Of course Kazantip is a mythical republic which does not exist but it’s independent and sovereign. It has its own Basic Law, President, Government and citizents — kind freaky people who are tired of those normal ordinary life.
There’s also a visa regime — Kazantip visa (individual plastic card with barcode) costs about 100 euro for the whole month.
Kazantip Republic takes place on the Black Sea coast of Crimea half-island (Ukraine — a former USSR republic neighboured by Russia) every summer. The festival continues for about a month — from the end of July till the end of August — and gathers more than 100 thousands of people from all around the globe.
There are more than 6 dancefloors, 30 bars and restaurants, 2 open air cinema halls, 3 kite stations and a huge number of various architectural constructions which you can’t even imagine! Don’t forget about unbelievable light and sound — it looks like a giant spaceship in the night. Really strange but all these unique facilities are situated in little (only 4 streets!) outlandish village near the sea. You can live in small guest houses or rent some apartments here. So this trip in a land of freaks is real safari!
At last one more strange fact. You have never heard about this imaginary Republic but Sven Vath, Dubfire, Timo Maas, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Crystal Method, LTJ Bukem, Oliver Huntemann, Stephan Bodzin, Tigerskin, James Zabiela, Robert Babicz and hundreds more well-known artist perform at Kazantip every year.
