MOST internet access in the world is via mobile

    Hi!

Interesting fact that most people of the billions don't even have the idea in their head of going home to a 32" flat panel and 'surfin' before dinner.

Where 2 years ago there were thousands of towns and villages (read: socially coherent economic and social clusters of families numbering in the the thousands and more--not just little goatheards with 9 people attached) with NO PHONE WHATSOEVER, today these very same people walk around with a little bulge on their pants all the time. (Oh come on...!)
Millions of web accesses per day are made via mobile--maybe billions--but certainly more that computers.

Along comes "last.fm", a brilliant product i've been fussing with for several years now, first on one Powermac tower, then a faster one, a faster one, a....then an iMac, etc. It's a great complement to my 50,000 song library. I can live without it. I have the songs!

Not long ago I got a Palm Treo 650 (worked perfectly--no crashes, old looking but most usable UI of any such device by far), and now I've got a Centro. (It's littler and...IT'S RED! Tee-hee!)

I listen to podcasts of Cartalk or any other NPR content, and I'm finding more and more everyday.

NPR.com presents a Flash-based player that's useful and flexible and works--but not on my mobile. Alas, I can usually dig up a...PODCAST version in antiquated, yet functional, even streaming .mp3.

How hard could THAT have been?

I'm not a a programmer, but it seems to me that millions--including me, which really gets me going, can't use last.fm, not even a crippled radio player version. Nuuuuhhh-thing.

But I'd be lying--I AM a programmer, and the answer is....not too. (I was referring to "how hard?")

Admittedly you have features and the all important "scrobbling" to worry about. But as another poster noted, Steve Jobs got the iPhone to play the skateboarding dog on Youtube. "I want the dog TOO!!!", says the Steve. Got the dog for ya..s-s-s-ir!!

A guess, but we could be a little too in love with how cool our little playcorner is to squander time going an extra 1% and letting me rock--and a few billion mobile-only users--"last.fm" on my Centro?

I'd venture, fully accepting that I could be wrong, the answer is: yes.

sorry this is so long. hope there was something worthwhile in there.

Buried under all the blather about global connectivity, NPR, and Steve Jobs skateboarding over dogs on YouTube, it looks like this person wants to be able to listen to listen to Last.FM streams on their smartphone.

I agree with the poster's message that is simply:

"last.fm should have a site dedicated to mobile browsers."

I've noticed that google and many other sites have mobile versions that can detect your browser and automatically take you to their mobile site. But even if that is too complex just setup a simple html website at http://mobile.last.fm and we'll bookmark it on our phones. It doesn't matter if it's lacking in much of the glam and functionality of he main site. It's a mobile site, we expect it to be a bit limited.

Even small time sites have mobile versions now, I don't see how this can be that hard to get setup.

All comments reflect the views of the poster and not of last.fm or it's management.
