Album art display in Growl notifications (Mac OSX)

    Hello,

It would be cool to have album arts displayed in the Growl notifications when your playing songs or the radio in the LastFM client (software).

Righ now what we got is this:

I don't think that would be hard to implement since album arts are already present in the songs description in the client as we can see here:

    Have a good day!

I'm not sure (not a mac user) but maybe this may be a limitation of Growl? What type of data does growl parse from and does the last.fm client even have that data for grabs?

All comments reflect the views of the poster and not of last.fm or it's management.

  • It certainly is not a limitation of growl. The iScrobbler program uses growl and has album art in its notifications.

I do know that the process does increase RAM and CPU usage slightly, though, as it will cache images, or as was described to me.

There must be a reason that the client chooses not to get album art (could be performance ideas, who knows), but it would be a nice small addition if the programmers would grace us.... But it certainly isn't growl holding back the possibility.

About a year ago when I got a Mac and installed growl and Last.FM, the album art showed up correctly with growl. It was only after an update of the Last.FM client that the art went away. I miss the art.

  • I'm missing it as well. The provided iTunes plugin of Growl supports it. But I don't like having to start two programs (scrobbler and the Growl-plugin) just to see some album art.

  • For some obscure reason the last.fm/Growl notifications kept making my tracks jump at the start, so now I use CoverSutra instead, which has artwork and some other useful features if you're that bothered by it.

    Oh! also...

CoverSutra has integrated last.fm support! So you don't need to run the scrobbler too.

are you using iscrobbler? i was testing it out for the first time just yesterday, and like you, i noticed the jump or stutter at the beginning of every single track. i don't think it's growl doing this, because it doesn't happen with the last.fm client.

btw, is iscrobbler supposed to always stream thru itunes? i never realized that.

U.G.L.Y. tip #33⅓: alpha masks make your pngs blurry. strip 'em if you don't need 'em.
