Feature Request: No Christmas Music Until After Thanksgiving Day (or past New Years)

I love Last.FM, and have been using it instead of listening to my own music lately. However, I also have a strict rule that Christmas music is NOT to be played until after lunch on Thanksgiving, and not after New Years Eve.

Lately I've had several Christmas tunes come through random stations, such as the artist Counting Crows station I was listening to earlier.

While I realize I can easily just click 'Next', I still think it would be a great feature to automatically filter out all Christmas tunes except for within a specific time frame for my account. Anyone else?

**Note that I'm not a scrooge, or a humbug, but quite the opposite. I LOVE Christmas music, and thus want to make sure to preserve its special-ness by keeping it to its specific time of the year, so that it maintains its uplifting and holiday-ish qualities. I'm only seeking to preserve its meaning/feeling, and not squash it.

Thanksgiving has been over for a month. B-)

Did I hear that right? Mondegreens - for the misheard word.

  • I've noticed that as well. Caught me off guard at first as I wasn't expecting a Christmas song to be played.

How would they determine if a given track was a Christmas song?

It`s determined by tags (to a certain extent, anyway).

I think insted of opting out of Christmas music, a better way would be to add the ability to add tags that should not be played (weird sentence...). Basically having the radio consisting of two inputs; one for tag/artist to be played (as it is now) and one optional input for artist/tag to avoid (would let you skip christmas music, I guess).

Actually a great idea, even though a lot of shop owners seem to think so, October isn`t Christmas.

That would be filtering by tags, a feature that used to exist but was removed to appease licensing laws. If you can filter "Christmas" why not "emo", "indie" "garage", etc.

All comments reflect the views of the poster and not of last.fm or it's management.
