Playing Last.Fm radio streams from Squeezebox

I'm trying to figure out how to get some of the Last.Fm radio streams to be playable from my Squeezebox. I thought maybe I could just add an .m3u url stream, but I do not see anywhere on the site where Last.Fm offers URL's to stream content. I only see ways to embed their Flash player, or you have to use the Last.Fm application.

    Is this possible at all?

    Slimscrobbler or Squeezescrobbler

    Hi salvobeta,

Install the Slimscrobbler or Squeezescrobbler plugin on your server, depending on you're using Slimserver or the new Squeezecenter.

This plugin allows you to listen to your various personal last.fm stations and also allows you to enter tag or artist based stations. You can even copy/paste the lastfm: url you want to listen to into the web interface.

Note: I had to turn off he built-in srcobbling in Squeezecenter after I installed this plugin because my tracks were being submitted twice.

    not via the webinterface

Yggdrasil is right. What puzzled me though, is that Last.Fm did not appear in my version of SqueezeCenter's webinterface. It is available through the the Remote Control, directly on the device.

I had the same problem seeing lastfm within the web interface of squeezecentre 7 untill i installed v1.1.9 of sqeezescrobbler.

Try downloading the newest version of sqeezescrobbler and upgrading to sqeezecentre 7 if you have not already done so.

    Hi !

What about listening Last.FM streams with the SqueezeNetwork? If it's possible, how does it work?

Or, anyone knows if it's planned for the future?

    Thank you :)

Hi, i have only had my squeezebox for 2 months and love everythink about it. Lastfm would be a great addition to it, and the guys at slim devices are working on a plugin that will enable lastfm playlists and radio to work on it. Check out http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44082&page=2

Thanks for clearing that up. I have Last.fm on my SB. If I were able to get Last.fm radio streams I would know it right?

It is still being worked on, but when ready you will be able to play lastfm through squeezenetwork. You will just have to edit your login settings on squeezenetwork.com
Keep checking your squeezenetwork account occasionally, it should appear in the accounts section when available.

Hello again. I have just checked with slim devices and they said the lastfm plugin for squeezenetwork is basically done, and are just waiting for Last.fm to do some API fixes. So fingers crossed should be very soon, just waiting for lastfm now.

In order to help me better understand the tech stuff, what does API mean?

It means application programming interface, basically its source code that allows different computer programs or operating systems to view or interact with each other.

Thanks, I was afraid u were going to say it had something to do with licensing agreements. That could take forever.

There doesn't appear to be any date yet. The delays seems to be with the lastfm people and not slimdevices/squeezenetwork. Looks like we will have to be a little more patient i'm afraid.
  • Last.fm now appears on Squeezenetwork's menu under "music services" on my Squeezeboxes, but I still can't access, so I guess they are making some progress on it.

It must be very nearly ready as andy from slimdevices states "that shouldn't have been made visible yet, stay tuned"

Can you explain to a potential buyer (me!), how exactly does this work? Sounds like the Squeezebox has some sort of web interface, where you can set up your favourite radio feeds?

No the squeezebox itself doesnt have a web interface, you initially set it up on your pc through squeezenetwork.com You can set the url's for your favourite radio stations there. And now set up your lasffm account too. Another excellent account to have is mp3tunes.com You can upload all your music to the intenet and listen to it through your squeezebox. Once set up you do not need to connect squeezebox to a pc. It has a simple but beautiful scrolling text display, and is simple to use.

This is a fantastic development for Squeezebox owners, and has been a long time coming. Now I don't need my PC on when I want to listen to great, new, relevant, personalised music fro my sofa. Well worth my subscription to Last.fm...thanks guys.

Am I missing something? I've been listening to Last.fm since December on my Squeezebox. And I never use Squeezenetwork. I use the plugin.

As to Squeezenetwork .. I find getting between it and Squeezecenter to be cumbersome. And there's very little I can't do through Squeezecenter that I can do on Squeezenet. I save all of my net radio as favorites and never have to go onto Squeezenet.

Yes you are right, but for many people squeezenetwork is preferable as you don't need to have your computer on. The plugins you are referring to only work on squeezecentre. I always use SN because i don't wish to always have my pc on. And also i use a tablet pc, which only has a 40gb hard drive and wouldnt be able to get all my mp3's on it. I upload them all to mp3tunes. That is why i prefer squeezenetwork, although yes you can stream mp3tunes from squeezecentre as well, but what's the point when you don't need to use SC at all.

"Right now we can only stream Last.fm radio to the Squeezebox in the US, UK and Germany—we are working on extending this to other territories. In the meantime, you can listen to Last.fm radio on your computer in other countries."

    What a disappointment!

Download SqueezeCenter from www.slimdevices.com, install it and use the SoftSqueeze included to simulate the hardware. You can also register the Softsqueeze at Squeezenetwork. Better than thousand words because you can simply use the full function of a Transporter or Squeezebox classic (change skin) together with SqueezeCenter and SqueezeNetwork.
