I basically saw Davina McCall on the advert while flicking, and quickly changed the channel in terror.
I'm gonna watch it to take my mind off my man flu.

Let me know what you think. I listened to an interview with Charlie Brooker talking about the making of the show. He said he expected Davina to refuse to appear in it, but she said yes straight away and put everything into being a believable zombie.

It is quite odd seeing an un-dead Davina. It makes a change from pregnant Davina.

I just watched "In the Company of Men." Aaron Eckhart's character gets my vote for the biggest asshole of all time.

  • Saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno tonight, was pretty funny. Not up to par with View Askew Kevin Smith films but still pretty funny, plenty of laughs in the first half of the movie. The Dutch Rutter is just gold too.

That Elizabeth Banks is in a shit load of movies now too, what the hell is that about.

Probably her role as Beth in 40 Year Old Virgin helped. That movie did pretty well on the box office. You know she was in Wet Hot American Summer? That movie was out in 2002 though.

Speaking of which, I really need to watch Wet Hot American Summer again. It's been too long since I've seen it last.

    Good stuff!

I watched Burn After Reading on Friday. I understand what generalmalaise meant about the film being inconsequential - but I still enjoyed it. It kept me interested.

Haha they have been playing this at the Alamo Drafthouse(s) in Austin before horror movies and movies that have plots that deal with ghosts for a while now.

Has anyone here ever seen the film "Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller"? I'm kind of wondering if it's known at all outside of Canada. It's this incredibly strange film funded by Canada Post about this little shit of a kid whose pretty much a drug-dealer for stamps, hanging out behind the school, slipping kids misprinted stamps for pocket change. The entire films hinges on this bizarre alternate reality where every kid is obsessed with collecting stamps, not very subtle advertising on Canada Post's part, really, but much more entertaining than your average Government-sponsored low-budget kid's film. It has a soundtrack written by Kate & Anna McGarrigle, and features probably the earliest recorded musical performance by Rufus Wainwright, who sings a song in the middle of a shopping mall.

On an unrelated note, I'm pretty sure that "American Movie" is the best film ever made. The best documentary, at the very least.

  • Anyone seen "The Strangers?" I watched it with some people who all found it terrifying, and I was only amused by it, never scared or shocked. I had hoped that it would actually scare me, but nothing.

    Yo, seventh position ain't shit.

Haha, let's not go that far, but it's certainly a four-star effort. I've heard from a friend that the documentary subject's film was actually pretty decent.

    Withnail & I

The dialogue in this film is outstanding! I can see this becoming a favourite.

The first time I saw Withnail & I, I didn't get it at all. Much better on repeated viewings, thankfully.

I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show there last night and it was the most fun I've had in a long time (since halloween). I had no idea that people yelling during a movie could be so hilarious.

.....What the fuck did I just watch?

Any suggestions as an intro to Miike? I hear Tetsuo often enough, but the last post wasn't really a ringing endorsement.

Slumdog Millionaire was really good, even if a bit predictable. Basically like a more upbeat City of God (with a soundtrack by M.I.A. and A R Rahmann)

  • I think everyone needs to witness Tetsuo at least once in their life.

    Yo, seventh position ain't shit.

Tetsuo isn't Miike, it's Shinya Tsukamoto.

    Here's some suggestions for Miike:

    Audition
    IZO
    Visitor Q

  • Tetsuo is only good for the awesome music.

Regarding Miike, Ichi The Killer is a pretty good film. Kakihara is pretty badass.

Sorry, Tsukamoto is in Ichi the Killer. I knew there was some connection between the two.

Oh, it's definitely worth watching for the experience. It's wierd in a Lynch/Cronenberg kinda way.

Re-watched Higher Learning, probably John Singleton's only other good film apart from Boyz in the Hood in my opinion. A pretty powerful movie that's tastefully done, even if its plot is a tad outlandish and its characters largely stereotypes. (but that's probably a given for a primarily racial-themed film, I guess) Great soundtrack too!
