Tanım:
Thomas Pynchon is out there. Masked and anonymous. Armed and dangerous. Writing.

This group is for those who can handle his books.

"A SCREAMING COMES ACROSS THE SKY. It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to no.

It is too late. The Evacuation still proceeds, but it’s all theatre. There are no lights inside the cars. No light anywhere. Above him lift girders old as an iron queen, and glass somewhere far above that would let the light of day through. But it’s night. He’s afraid of the way the glass will fall—soon—it will be a spectacle: the fall of a crystal palace. But coming down in total blackout, without one glint of light, only great invisible crashing."

- Gravity's Rainbow

Thomas Ruggles Pynchon, Jr. (born May 8, 1937) is an American writer based in New York City, noted for his dense and complex works of fiction. Hailing from Long Island, Pynchon spent two years in the United States Navy and earned an English degree from Cornell University. After publishing several short stories in the late 1950s and early 1960s, he began composing the novels for which he is best known today: V. (1963), The Crying of Lot 49 (1966), Gravity's Rainbow (1973), Vineland (1990), Mason & Dixon (1997), and Against the Day (2006).

Pynchon is regarded by many readers and critics as one of the finest contemporary authors. He is a MacArthur Fellow and a recipient of the National Book Award, and is regularly cited as a contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Both his fiction and non-fiction writings encompass a vast array of subject matter, styles and themes, including (but not limited to) the fields of history, science and mathematics. Pynchon is also known for his avoidance of personal publicity: very few photographs of him have ever been published, and rumours about his location and identity have been circulated since the 1960s.

I think this group is dead. No recent posts and no leader now. I think I will leave. If anyone here wants to encourage me to start a new Pynchon Group - visit my page and PM me with that request. Thanks.

Said it before but the group radio here is just the best - Manu Dibango, Charles Mingus and Swans a happy listener makes. As well as some Charleston swing, indie shoegazing and tropicalia. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than watching the snooker, listening to this stuff and catching some sunshine. NIce.

Funny thing, never properly listened any of the bands in the Unique to this Group chart. Ok, and in overall chart PJ Harvey is the only one. But I truly _love_ her. Please forgive me. :o)

What last fm does should be more important than what it looks like as long as the layout & structure doesn't impede upon the functionality. Well... it does more stuff now and there are some great new features like multi-playlists but I'm still of the opinion that the layout gets in the way of me using this site due to more scrolling but there will be little shortcuts I discover as I go along like clicking on the 'shouts' button at the top of the page to bring me down here! Using any application or website will require a (re)learning curve several times so we should be asking the newbies what they think of it - anyone here know anyone who has joined in the last week?

V is awesome - and I will have to re-read once I've got through M&D. Enjoy a summer of free association, paranoia and a shed load of adventitious reinforcement type shenanigans.

I just bought Slow Learner and V. I liked some of the stories in Slow Learner. I'm going to save V. for my summer vacation though haha.

M&D could be exhausting but it's extremly enjoyable book.

I went for Slow Learner and its a mixed bag. Think that M&D will be the last one unless I missed one... That might be my summer break read.
