I sincerely believe Transistor is one of the top 5 albums of the 90s and one of the most underrated albums of all time.

From San Diego to Boston and from Miami to Seattle, "Transistor" rocks the ear phones and party houses of America. Genre-skating reggae-rock with a hint of heavy rock.

Quit saying you like one album but hate another, your hypocrisy seems more than your appeal. The discography as a whole contains some you may like, why do you say anything other than what makes you happy. You can't have a negative opinion AND a happy one, people are going to wonder if you're stupid.

Evolver was their last great album. I think it's incredibly underrated.

I can't be sure but I think Zach is now agreeing with me on things we used to disagree about.

Happy 311 day to all! Let's pump up the bass on the next album, hmmm? Enough of this shit Bob Rock/whoever mixing. Listen to the early stuff and see how loud P-nut was back then. Shouldn't bury one of the nest bassists in the world in the mix! I love Tim, but c'mon, he's half the musician P-nut is. Same with the live gigs, seen them 12 times, and it keeps getting worse, constant blazing guitars just wears your ears out. Get it together please!

thing is though, the simplicity of their songs is what draws me in, i like that they are just writing bouncy rock songs, if i want complicated and progressive music i can listen to dream theater or tool! but i suppose ultimately there isnt really anywhere else they can go, considering the variety of sounds they have played with over the years its bound to get to a point where they start to repeat themselves. i guess they have become victims of their own creativity!

Kinda relieved and yet incredibly sad that other people have picked up on the steady decline of 311. Their music's been a part of my life ever since I discovered Grassroots, and it pains me to see them get stuck in their formulas...I wish they tried incorporating something new into their musical output or just started writing less lazy and more engaging songs.

Im also a rather progressive-minded/forward thinking music fan, I enjoy revisiting the past but not dwelling or constantly going there, I'm a lot more "what have you done for me lately" and Uplifter was a quality release (though you hear it enough times, it eventually sits on a shelf. Id rate it a 7.) Universal Pulse gets probably a 5 and Don't Tread on Me was like a 3. So they've really only made 1 quality record in the past decade really... The performance needs to come more to the fore-front, I think Nick needs to be more assertive & try new things vocally. Chad needs to play a little more technically & more moments like the end of "A Ways to Go" for P-Nut to go off, that's one of the only truly memorable moments off Universal Pulse as I think about it, come on 311 lets step up the intensity while still keeping the positive vibe. I think like I said Music meets Transistor would be really cool, another UP or DTOM would be beating a dead horse & show the well has run dry unfortunately

The next 311 album I've decided is make-or-break for me, I hate to cut em down because I think the way they bring ppl together and are a band all about positivity is great but they're almost like Korn meaning they're basic (at least at this stage and like Korn as a child sort of was an early precursor to incredible metal bands like Nothingface, Mudvayne and Sevendust) and what 311 did was lead me to the artists Jimmie's Chicken Shack, The Urge and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, those are all far superior bands than 311, just rhythmically, better all-around musicians and bands as time has gone on they excite me a lot more. Universal Pulse, an 8-song release from a band that writes such insanely simplistic and rhythmically consistent (slow & mid-tempo songs that do not have many key changes) was disappointing... They need to write something twisted like Music meets Transistor or I think their days of making good albums are over. Sucks to say that & feel this way but in my heart I truly do!

i get so nostalgic when I listen to their older albums (Grassroots/Visit) It has this old 90's sound to it...but it makes me feel as if I grew up back then even though I'm only 21 and was a child throughout the 90's. It's a weird feeling.
