Quite a few punks act like that actually, a lot of whom are fans of old-school AFI. And I find the argument that the Decemberunderground songs were written to sell amusing. If a band that plays hardcore music ever decides to progress with their sound, and the result is more mainstream compatible, it's automatically labeled a sellout, which is ridiculous. I challenge you to name me one other succesful, mainstream act that has a sound that resembles DU-era AFI. If you resort to the usual argument "My Chemical Romance", then you're ignorant, MCR and DU-era AFI sound nothing alike, both lyrically and compositionally. The only track that is even possible to make an argument for being an attempt at selling is the lead single Miss Murder. And I've seen interviews where they have confirmed that despite the typical Green Day accusations, their main influence in writing that song was Depeche Mode. Not to mention 37mm is featured on DU, and I know for a fact that full-on synthpop doesn't "sell."

Sounds more like someone who never leaves the computer and listens to the latest Blink 182 and Green Day albums then quickly runs to their myspace page to put "I love punk!" on there.) Anyway, AFI "grew up" and explored other genres years ago. They still made pretty good alternative punk too. Decemberunderground however was just playing music that sells AKA emo. I mean, just look at the kind of people praising it.

Claytonian15 - More like, this is what happens when a punk band grows up and starts becoming actual musicians, and starts actually exploring other genres of music instead of limiting themselves to one genre forever just to please their "HxC PuNk!!!!11" fanbase. Grow the fuck up, this is a great album, regardless if it fits your musical taste or not.

I haven't listened to these guys for ages. I've missed them. And who cares if they sold out. Their sound changed, and yeah their old stuff was better, but they're still good IMO.

I don't understand why people say this is their worst album. Have you even heard Answer That or Very Proud of Ya?? Anyway, this CD rules. It's my favorite album at the moment but that changes weekly. My favorite tracks are The Interview, Love Like Winter, Kiss and Control, 37mm, and Endlessly, She Said.

comeing from a DF (afi fan club) member of 11 years, i will never again listen to this album. i did twice the week that i got it, then i got together with other like minded DF members in the Illinois chapter and torched the fucker. so. fucking. bad.
