I thought it might be fun to write down (in the case i happen to forget) how I got into the bands/artists on my charts and what my fave song from them and why.
.... Honestly I'm doing this just 'cause I can't sleep ... let's see...
-the order is based on the current over all charts-
Within Temptation
- My very favourite band. The first song I heard was "Stand my ground" - the video, I saw on tv in November 2004. I immediately tought "hmm.. sounds good, I think I'll buy their album" - seriously! ... I bought the SMG 3-track single myself and got the premium version of "The Silent Force" for x-mas... see my other journal entry to prove I'm still buying their cd's
- Favourite song ... I love them all, don't make me choose
Bauhaus
- I got into Bauhaus after reading Poppy Z. Brite's novel "Lost Souls". The first song I heard was (naturally) "Bela Lugosi's dead" ... I remember taking a nap in my dark room during the lunch time and having Bauhaus playing in the background. oh, those days..
- "Bela Lugosi's dead" is a kick ass song, but I'd say my favourite song is "Stigmata martyr"
Emilie Autumn
- I didn't like EA at first, I downloaded "How strange" from her website (in the Enchant -days) and though it was strange indeed... I gave another try when "Opheliac" came out, but it still didn't catch me. Later, I noticed EA's "Dead is the new alive (manipulator mix by dope stars inc.)" on the SAW soundtrack, and eversince I've been a muffin.
- I guess my favourite for now is "Opheliac"
Epica
- I got to know Epica from Within Temptation's site, I heard a lot of people saying they were quite alike. It was somewhere in 2004 when I heard my first Epica song, "The Phantom Agony", and really liked it. They're really great.
- My favourite album is "The Phantom Agony", and favourite song of it is "Adyta" ... doesn't count?... then I'd say my favourite song is "Consign to Oblivion" - it opened my eyes when I was wondering about the evil in humanity on the darkest days of last autumn.
浜崎あゆみ
- I really like Ayu.. First time I heard her song, which was "Far away", was in winter 2004. The time I went to Japan in last February, most of the CD's/DVD's I bought were Ayu's
- I have my favourites from each album... and many of them, I think "Jewel" wins
Dope Stars Inc.
- I got into DSI after hearing the remixes they made of Emilie Autumn's songs ("Liar" and "Dead is the new alive") "Make a star" was the first song of theirs I heard and, well, the rest is history
- "Neuromance" is an awesome album, favourite songs - "Vyperpunk", "Self destructive corp.", "Defcon 5" ... but the whole album is great in total
David Bowie
- I have quite always known Bowie, like who hasn't?, but the time I actually started to *listen* was the time I was hooked to Bauhaus' cover of "Ziggy Stardust" and I wanted to hear the original version properly. I still remember the day I walked to the library and borrowed "Ziggy" ...
- I'm a mango if "Life on Mars?" isn't just about the best song ever
London After Midnight
- Addicted. The first album I heard was "Psycho magnet" but I've no idea when that was.. great music, but I wished the new album ("violent acts of beauty") would have been a bit more romantic, like the previous albums
- Fave song "Spider and a fly" - also the acoustic version
Christian Death
- ONLY WITH ROZZ WILLIAMS! I won't know start the i-hate-valor -speech, but just that you know, I hate him! First time I heard about CD was when I read a book about gothic culture. Had to check them out.
- Favourite song, basicly anything Rozz, but I think "Spiritual cramp" is the one
Sonata Arctica
- I saw Sonata supporting Nightwish in 2005. I really liked them, so I decided to get to know them better
- The only song I could remember from the time I first time heard them was "Don't say a word" and it's still my favourite
Tarja Turunen
- Got to know through Nightwish, of course. I do like Tarja's solo work... very much, actually
- "Sing for me", "boy and the ghost", "I walk alone", "our great divide"... can't choose
Nightwish
- ONLY WITH TARJA! - I hadn't heard NW before when I bought the "Bless the child" -ep, then there was a tile I didn't listen to them, until "Once" came out. And now again when Tarja was kicked out ... the new stuff isn't good
Moi dix Mois
- I remember grabbing "Nocturnal opera" from a CD shop in Germany (which was actually in the middle of nowhere) .. I thought it looked familiar. It was also my first J-rock album. I do prefer Juka to Seth by far, but after seeing M10M live with Seth, I was positively surprised eventhough it was the most painful concert experience I've ever had
- Favorites from Juka - "The Prophet" and "Perish" - and from Seth - "Eternally beyond" and "Xanadu"
The Birthday Massacre
- I think I saw a pic of TBM somewhere, and thought they looked interesting and later got addicted to "Blue" ... one of the cases I can't remember well
- Favourite songs would be "Lovers end", "Happy birthday", "Blue" and "Red Stars"
スガシカオ
- First time I heard Suga Shikao's song "19 sai" on the opening of the anime "xxxHOLiC" I tought it was annoying, but after a few more listens I started to like it, very much. Later I noticed his song "Manatsu no yoru no yume" on the movie "Death Note" which was very cool
- "19 sai" and "Manatsu no yoru no yume" are the faves
Rozz Williams
- Got to know thought Christian Death. Truly a genius.
- "Flowers" is such a beautiful and sad song, also the live cover of Bowie's "Time" sung by Rozz is wonderful
L'Âme Immortelle
- The first song I heard was "will you?" on the Last.fm radio, and I was really surprised for how good it was
- "Will you?" and "Stumme schreie" are my all-time favourites, but at the moment also "Phönix"
Siouxsie and the Banshees
- Again I can't remember where I heard this for the first time ... although I'm pretty sure the first sing was "Hong kong garden" - I do remember being surprised to hear it on the Marie Antoinette movie... it was cool :)
- Fave song: "Christine"
Abney Park
- I discovered Abney park through steampunk, on Emilie Autumn's forum, so far I've only listened to the songs available for download on their site but I'm really going to buy their stuff in the future. Sounds very good
- I like "the wrong side" the most
Delain
- I heard Delain for the first time when they played live on the first Within Temptation fanclubday, I'll never forget it, for I didn't protect my hearing. After that it took me some time to start listening Delain even though I knew they were good. To get rid of bad memories you have to create new, good ones, instead. So I did and I'm enjoying it.
- "Sever" and "No compliance" are the faves
Angelspit
- I generally am not interested in bands that have "angel" or such in their names. However, I had heard Angelspit's remix of Emilie Autumn's song and I've been listening to them ever since I came across their song "Juicy" on the Last.fm radio
- favourite songs: "Vena cava", "100%", "Skinny little bitch", "Wreak havoc", "make you sin"
Blackmore's Night
I first time came across Blackmore's Night when I heard one of their songs ("Wish you were here") that was tought to be Within Temptation's ... I liked them, lovely music
- Favorite song would be "Diamonds and rust", it reminds me of the time I took contact to a friend from some five years ago, and I got the impression that our friendship is over. I still have the memories and that person is still dear to me.
Paradise Lost
- I heard Paradie Lost had been supported by Within Temptation on tour, and that's certainly a good reason for checking them out :P
- Fave song "Grey"
Goblin
- The soundtracks of Dario Argento's movies are so great! First time I heard Goblin was the time I watched "Suspiria"
- the theme of "Suspiria" is the fave
