• Summer 2008

    28 Haz 2008, 06:32 yazan hondo77

    Each summer I made a CD mix that stays in the player all summer long. It's made up of songs I recently bought and has to be good enough to be played over and over as well as loud enough to be heard in my convertible. Here is the mix for 2008, and though it fits on a CD, it's going to be living on my iPod nano:

    ÇalWe Are The Pipettes by The Pipettes from We Are the Pipettes
    If you haven't noticed yet
    We're the prettiest girls you've ever met

    Whips & Chains by The Green Lady Killers from The Green Lady Killers
    You need it?
    Down on your knees!
    Bow down, love slave

    ÇalType Of Girl by Lance Lopez from Higher Ground
    You're just the type of girl
    Everybody's talkin' about.
    You're just the type of girl
    That I can't do without.

    Superfortress by StoneWall noise orchestra from Vol. 1
    Time for takeoff
    Time for action
    Airborne, all the way

    Shockwave by Black Tide from Light From Above
    I'm a shockwave
    And I'll take your @#*& life

    Fukken Über Death Party by Hanzel und Gretyl from 2012: Zwanzig Zwölf
    Let's get this töten party started mach schnell!

    Killing Season by Testament from The Formation Of Damnation
    I was taught the Art of War:
    Kill!

    ÇalWar, Fire, Guns & Blood by Skew Siskin from Peace Breaker
    Is this 2000-something
    Or are we back in the dark ages?

    Breaking The Silence by Firewind from Allegiance
    My heart is aching, my love is fading
    So tired of living in fear

    Sunrise by In Tenebris from In Tenebris
    Everything I feel for you
    Words cannot express it true

    Silver Lining by Player from Danger Zone
    Just 'cause I'm down on my good luck
    You're walking away?

    ÇalEres Tu by Mocedades
    Como mi poema, eres tu, eres tu
    Como una guitarra en la noche

    ÇalPretty Ballerina by The Left Banke
    I called her yesterday
    It should have been tomorrow
    I could not keep the joy that was inside

    Because by The Dave Clark Five
    Give me one kiss and I'll be happy
    Just to be with you

    ÇalYou Picked Me by A Fine Frenzy from One Cell In The Sea
    Like an apple on a tree
    Hiding out behind the leaves
    I was difficult to reach
    But you picked me

    ÇalLost and found by Agua de Annique from Air
    The hardest thing in the world
    Is to speak my fear
    I am afraid to let go

    Our hearts were full of love

    And you can stand right there if you want
    But I’m going on
    And I’m prepared to go it alone

    ÇalLe Disko by Shiny Toy Guns from We Are Pilots
    If what they say is true
    You’re a boy and I'm a girl
    I will never fall in love with you
  • Agua de Annique - Air [album review / my first impressions]

    20 Eki 2007, 16:52 yazan LE0_

    I am now hearing the album Air from Agua de Annique, and I will let you know my first immpressions...

    ÇalBeautiful One - [9.5]
    Very good music, and a candidate for the best in this album. Anekke's voice gives this music a melancholic atmosphere, like a cold sunset of autumn.

    ÇalWitnesses - [10.0]
    A smart rhythm. The lyrics are very interesting. Sounds to me with a little bit influence of industrial music, that does not have a melancholic atmosphere... maybe an agressive one.

    ÇalYalin - [7.5]
    This track remembers me of 90's blues. Very good track. It makes me feel a little happy xD

    ÇalDay after Yesterday - [9.5]
    Another music that doesn't sound too melancholic. It's a good track to play (or not) when you break with your girlfriend =P... also, it sounds nostalgic... a good cadidate for the best?

    ÇalMy Girl - [8.5]
    Another candidate (for me) to be the best of the album. It sounds a little sad, thought it has a faster rhythm compared with the previous tracks.

    ÇalTake Care of Me - [8.0]
    A very melancholic atmosphere. The slow rhythm and Anneke's voice gives a sad feeling. Made me feel like I were in front of a fireplace, in a cold rainy night.

    ÇalIce Water - [10.0]
    Sad, slow, inconstant... and brilliant! Another track to hear (or not) when you break with your girlfriend. The chorus made me shiver. Another good candidate for the best of the album.

    You are nice! - [9.0]
    Very influenced by the music of The Gathering? Yes. Sad? Definitely not! But a fast track like that is crucial.

    ÇalTrail Of Grief - [8.0]
    Another with brilliant lyrics. Not much atmospheric like Beautiful One and Ice Water, but the... oh! A clime break!... continuing... but the chorus is very catchy, and it also remebers me of 90's blues.

    Come wander with me - [6.5]
    Being honest, I didn't like much this track. Sounds very nostalgic.

    Sunken soldiers ball - [9.5]
    The lyrics didn't sound very good to me. But the melancholic chorus and the gloomy backing-vocal gives a very profound atmosphere. Good candidate to be a single =P... one of the best of the album, dare I say. Remebers me of some sad brazilian music.

    ÇalLost and found - [8.5]
    The piano suits perfectly. The lyrics are suggestive. Atmosphere? A nostalgic one could be. I didn't like much the drums in the second half of this track. Hear when you break with one friend.

    ÇalAsleep - [7.5]
    A little track, with 2 minutes and 29 seconds. Sounded like a lullaby to me. Maybe a good way to close an album.

    Average: [8.6]

    Very good album. I'm not used to hear alternative/atmospheric rock, so this could explain this average. These were my first impressions, they can be different in the future =P

    Thanks for visiting!

    EDIT 1 (05/Jun/2008): Correcting the tags - 'You Are Nice' to 'You Are Nice!', 'Come Wander' to 'Come Wander With Me' and 'Sunken Soldiers' to 'Sunken Soldiers Ball'. Strangely, they added wrong tags to some songs here on Last.fm.

    EDIT 2 & 3 (05/Jun/2008): no industrial elements lol. Added the 'Rating' chart and the note below.

    Rating:
    10.0 = Masterpiece. Perfection translated to music notes.
    9.0 = Great. May be in my playlist.
    8.6 = Agua de Annique - Air
    8.0 = Very Good.
    7.0 = Good, but not that much.
    6.0 = Regular
    5.0 = Crap
    4.0 = Shit
    3.0 = Extract of pure shit
    2.0 = Mastershit
    1.0 = Vomitory
    0.0 = American Idol
