Guess The Song Thing
2 Ara 2008, 07:01 yazan catgurrl978
You all know how these work - guess the song based on the first line or so. I'm going to post this both here and on FaceBook and see which site fares better :)
1. The curtains up, the crowd is waiting for you to come to life
2. One afternoon I heard a sound coming down
3. What was that scar situated from afar
4. How are things on the west coast?
5. Forced, we forced feeding you lines feeding you.
6. I can hear my train coming, it's a lonesome and distant cry
7. Remember the love we made (it's enough)
8. Growing tired of bedside resolve (politics lay out the pressure)
9. One drink, two drink, three drinks, four, she had eyes that I couldn't ignore
10. I've seen you darling, seen you hanging round town
11. Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
12. Wake up dreamer, it's happening without you
13. What I thought would never come has come, I wish I could say I did it 'cause I was young
14. You are my captor, my bayonet, it is my duty to fall on it
15. I feel a warm resistance beneath the outer layer
16. We were shooting at a mountain of dirt
17. Let's sing a song to end the world. No I'm not kidding. I said my prayers, or so I said, and nothing's hidden.
18. How can I just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace when I stand here taking every breath with you?
19. It's not as if New York City burned down to the ground once you drove away.
20. I want to be forgotten and I don't want to be reminded. You say \please don't make this harder', no I won't yet
21. I'm coming home but my heart is here. I'm making plans not to make plans while I'm here.
22. So that you're not alone, I wanna take you home with me
23. Brick by brick, the night eclipsed pricked by the cuticle thorns. Dried the sleep on nursery slits, into this life I’m born
24. I know I want you and you know you want me, but can you promise please you'll say yes to me
25. I'll make a sound you can remember. (When it comes) it's not like it's gonna matter anyway
26. They only want you when you're seventeen, when you're twenty one, you're no fun
27. "Hey there love, let's get to catching up 'cause I been thinking those thoughts that must have slipped my mind
28. Stacks on deck, patron' on ice, we can pop bottles all night
29. I'll write you a song and it won't be hard to sing
30. All I do is sleep all day and think of you
31. Believe me Natalie, listen Natalie, this is your last chance to find [There is no excuse to NOT get this one]
32. I want to live where soul meets body, and let the sun wrap its arms around me [Again no excuse!]
33. In a sense it don't come easy, in a sense it never will
34. Love of mine, someday you will die
35. You walk straight, not like them
36. Don't look back now, we thought we had it won. And all that we've left, is the smoking of a gun.
37. The pig's spitting taxes and unwanted tasks. We say, "send me to the battle please sir!"
38. Brian, top marks for not tryin'. So kind of you to bless us with your effortlessness
39. Pay the president in cigarettes, pay the president in government bonds
40. No sleep - I haven't slept for a week

The Song of the Day is "Leave Before the Lights Come On" by Arctic Monkeys. That song has inspired me to a plot in my new short story. But I still don't know if I should base it off the song completely or at all. Hmm, I need to speak to Lucia about that. I need to read. Then I'll write. But I'm being a lazy bum. Fuck. Oh, well. Wish me luck. -

Favorite Albums - Top 30
26 Kas 2008, 02:54 yazan Trossles
More than just my favorite artists and songs. I like these albums because I can enjoy usually 100% of it.
1. Illinois - Sufjan Stevens
I am in awe of him every time I hear any of his music. But this album in particular is amazing. I love the state concept albums he's done, and this did so much more to improve on the already awesome Michigan concept album. From the soft, beautiful "Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois," the aching "John Wayne Gacy Jr.," the flawless "Come on Feel the Illinoise," bouncy "The Tallest Man, the Broadest Shoulders," and the most popular (for a reason) "Chicago," it's nothing but perfection. Even the lyricless tracks offer catchy melodies and beats. It's really a perfect album, in my opinion.
2. Y's - Joanna Newsom
I was introduced to Joanna Newsom about a year ago. I mostly listened to Milk-Eyed Mender first, but I've grown to enjoy this album even more. I have to hand it to any artist who can write songs of this length, and have every one of them be completely listenable and enjoyable. "
Only Skin" is over 16 minutes, but it never drags on. Y's is the best kind of sophomore album; Joanna Newsom developed her sound and took a great risk, but even in spite of the ambitiousness of the album, she still "sounded like Joanna Newsom."
3. OK Computer - Radiohead
It's probably a cliche to have them on here, but there's a reason for that. I had been hesitant to check out Radiohead (for stupid reasons), but I finally see what all the fuss is about. This album is amazing! "
Paranoid Android" never gets old, but then again, neither does any of this album. Even "
Fitter Happier" is brilliant, albeit a little chilling and creepy. The whole album kind of feels that way, but it resonates, and the themes of alienation have really spoken to me. I read that Radiohead said they'd never be able to top this album, and they're probably right. But they haven't really tried to "top" it; they've continued to develop and explore. That a band can remain so consistently inventive and enjoyable after a success like this gives me hope for other artists I enjoy, that they can also continue to progress.
4. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
I was soooo surprised when I first got this album. Pitchfork had given it a really convincingly good review, so I thought I'd check it out. I listened to "
White Winter Hymnal" about thirty times, but was so taken aback that the rest of the songs were just as beautiful. Things have felt a little dry this year music wise; most of the new releases from this year haven't been nearly as satisfying as last year. I've mostly been listening to older releases. Although there have been several surprises amidst the boringness of 2008 music, this is definitely the best.
5. The Shepherd's Dog - Iron & Wine
I was going to put Fever to Tell as my 5th favorite, but I had nearly forgotten about this one. I was first turned off to Iron & Wine, because I didn't like their Postal Service cover on the Garden State soundtrack. So I never bothered to check out any of his other music. But I broke down and decided to give The Shepherd's Dog a try, and I was not sorry in the least. The album is nearly flawless, and even "Carousel," my least favorite track, is superb. "Innocent Bones" is probably my favorite song ever. Since falling in love with Iron & Wine, I've downloaded his previous works and can appreciate even more the growth of Sam Beam as an artist, but none of them top this one. I could go on to describe more of the individual songs, but honestly every single song is worthy of praise. It is my belief that this album could curtail even the harshest critics of Iron & Wine. It's worth anybody's time to check out, believe me.
