Ayreon,Arjen Anthony Lucassen tarafından oluşturulan bir progresif metal projesidir Camiasının bir çok önemli ismiyle birlikte çalışmıştır.Albümlerindeki lirik konseptleriyle tanınır.
Arjen,çevresinde bir çok proje içinde bulunan ve bazı progressive rock gruplarında da gitar çalan,ayrıca klavye, bas gitar ve daha bir çok müzik aletini çalıp,şarkı sözü yazan ve filozof lakabıyla ünlü bir müzisyendir.1993 yılında metal müzik dünyasında ses getirecek bir çalışma için kolları sıvar ve yaptığı projenin adını da ayreon koyar.

In terms of endings, I'd say 01 is better than THE. As a whole, however, I prefer THE to 01.

01 is his best work. The song structure is clever, the melodies are great and the whole album have a nice consistency.

Comatose isn't a bad song... People probably skip Age of Shadows first because they don't want to listen to a 10 minute song. I don't see why Liquid Eternity is number 2 though, I guess it's just not the type of song I like.

I like THE and Final Experiment the most. I haven't gotten to much in to 01, but I find that Ayreon is sort of an acquired taste for me, at first I don't like the CD, then I hear it again and I "get" it. I guess I'm musically immature.

01.. is a great album, but i think its too long. Jonas Renskes parts in the mellow moments of Age of Shadows, especially the part with the echo, is so awesome. Arjen just knows which singer fits which role, perfectly. Whos that chick singing "Forever we are, forever we live a lie..".

I hardly ever follow the order of the songs. I must admit the first songs on a CD have a small start-here bonus, but in the end, I listened to "Ride the Comet" most often, which is second last of the first CD, so I guess the order really isn't that important. But sometimes people might listen to a song over and over, and in that case, short songs get an advantage in the list. Last.fm should compare the overall time listened to. But the page is not that smart. ;)

NikoTeaJay: There is no such thing as "comparison" when we are talking about 01011001. The entire album is incredible, and I see no reason to compare any of the songs, since they all are fantastic :)

Age of Shadows is so much cooler than Comatose though. I can't help but be bored by the latter, despite the pure awesome of Jorn and Anneke *shrug*

My theory: People listen to Age of Shadows for a couple minutes (not long enough to count as a play on last.fm) and skip to comatose because they think it's gay. Or they are intimidated by an 11 minute opening song and start with comatose. And it makes sense that songs progressively get less listens as the album goes on. :(

I've never understood why it's so high. I mean, yes it has Anneke, yes it has Jorn, and yes indeed it's a touching and moving song & duet between two demigods. But still, it ain't that good. Well, not in comparison to some disc 2 marvels at least. Extinctions<3 Selection<3
