Most people will recognize "For What It's Worth" and pass over the rest of the songs, believing that's all the group had to offer. Fans know better. "Mr. Soul" is cranky, quintessential Neil Young. "Bluebird" was Stephen Stills playing at his best. "Kind Woman" displays Richie Furay at the most sincere and sweet of any voice, then and now. And, while it would be easy to pass off Dewey Martin and Bruce Palmer as adequate sidemen, well, they were far beyond that at the time. Throw in Jim Messina, who stepped from behind the glass as an engineer to fill in for Palmer, and you see how deeply the talent of this band has contributed to the music we have enjoyed for years. Palmer was first to depart from this life and, more recently, Martin. Furay has revisited his roots from time to time from his Colorado-based Christian ministry. And, of course, Stills & Young have played together off and on for decades.
