I wish i had seen Roni Size rather than Amy Winehouse. Apparently they were amazing and also played Brown Paper Bag twice! But i thought i'd see Ms. Winehouse before she gets drastically worse.

I wish i hadn't seen The Zutons either. They were very good, but i wanted to see either Leonard Cohen - who according to some was the best thing of the festival, but i shall be seeing him later in the month. Or see Florence and the Machine and Noah and the Whale. Who i really really wanted to see.
I also wanted to see Emmy The Great, but Lykke Li's performance time had been moved around, so wasn't sure when she would be on.

Anyway.
Good festivaling. Good acts. Few nice suprises.
Shall be returning for more next year, yeah

so far, apart from a rather dull Arcade Fire album, there's been an incredible amount of great music so far. where to start?
even though i've always loved her voice and her early eighties work, I kind of lost interest along the way and so was even happier to find that Tracy Thorn's latest offering is actually, well, really good. gotta admit that i got sorta tricked into listening to it. there's a cover version of the Pet Shop Boys' king's cross on it (on the itunes version that is). really stripped down, finally a well-done pet shop boys cover version (don't need a whole hand to count those. please someone prove me wrong). most of the album produced by Ewan Pearson and cagedbaby's tom gandey. when will there be a new Cagedbaby album, btw?
then there's Low. drums and wires. reinvented themselves. again. sort of. what a surprising album. i'd already got bored of them and decided to ignore their further output. good thing i didn't. bleeps and whiney guitar-melancholia combined in a not-exclusively-lo-fi indie way or whatever. this is not indie disco. this is cool.
ahh, indie disco. my hometown. !!!. LCD Soundsystem. Simian Mobile Disco. !!!'s latest is as great as their first try. less instrumental, more pop. shifting away from that noisy, krauty sound. taking quite the same path as Out Hud. hopefully !!! do continue dancing. looking forward to simian mobile disco. their dj sets are always great and their new single with the The Go! Team's lead singer on vocals makes me wish it was june already. a 2006 release in some parts of the world but not mine, there's fujiya & miyagi. some obvious krautrock-influences, blended with minimal-house. they're at their best when they do exactly that (which they don't). a surprisingly refreshing album nonetheless.
somewhat similar in their approach, but taking even more ingredients and mixing them with different chemicals are Suns Lungs. their spacey self-titled debut album is soon to be released and there's hope they're coming to a place near you. otherwise you'll have to settle for the record. which you really should get.
no blog post about 2007 without mentioning the most interesting band germany has had to offer since, hmm, Kraftwerk. tada, i've said it. Polarkreis 18. although it doesn't really do them justice all you folks into Sigur Rós and yeah Radiohead should listen to their debut album which has finally been released this year. worth a visit to germany alone, as they're playing all over the country this summer.

other records. Blonde Redhead's "23", which is just amazingly beautiful. Deerhunter's wonderfully mesmerizing drone-shoegazer-"cryptograms". Camera Obscura's "let's get out of this country" was released last year, but i missed it. how could i? i'm listening to it all day now to make up for it.

what else did i miss? and don't say Maxïmo Park. ;) my favourite track off their debut was "acrobat". it's not on their second album. i should have known.

It seems so hard nowadays just to go into a record shop and find the piece of vinal or CD that I am looking for. I see so many record stores that are just filling up wih more and more rubbish and charging extortonate amounts for anything that is worth buying.
Online shops maybe cheaper but still can have the problem of lack of content.
So for the last 3-4 years I have been buying more and more dirctly from Independent Labels websites. I thought I would make a list of all the good UK Indepedent Lables so people can go support them and maybe do the same.

I think is important that people support the labels this way as many of the have trouble with large distribution due to lack of funds. Visting the label website is also a good was to find new artists that you may not have heard of before. Hopefully together we can keep small lables alive.

I have tried to put links to as many as possable but I sure there will be one or two missing so if you spot any glaring omisions of labels please let me know and I will add them baring in mind that some lables I have not added as they are too big to be considered an Indepedent Label. Feel free to comment.
