Integrante de Silvania y Ciëlo, creador del sello discográfico Click New Wave, un músico y dj cuya actitud y rebeldía ha sido un ejemplo de clase e independencia

Cocó ciëlo, músico de extraordinario talento, un dj arriesgado, y un inteligente provocador -verbal y estético- ha sido encontrado muerto en su domicilio de Madrid a primera hora de la mañana del domingo herido, según la policía, por cortes de arma blanca.

Nacido en Arequipa (Perú), emigró a Europa para cumplir sus sueños, para ser una estrella, dejando atrás un país que no le comprendía. Lo hizo junto a su gran amigo e inseparable compañero artístico, de penurias y laureles, Mario ciëlo.

Llegaron a Alemania en los albores de los años 90 y de allí se trasladaron a Valencia donde, con el nombre de Silvania, sacaron sus dos primeros discos, el EP Miel Nube Hiel y el álbum En Cielo De Océano. Se adelantaron, con mucho, a la explosión de la música independiente en España y fueron pioneros de un sonido basado en la belleza y las espirales de las guitarras distorsionadas.

Gracias a esa primera etapa de Silvania, la música independiente de nuestros país pudo mirar a la cara a grupos como My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins o Insides.

Darle la vuelta a la noche

Cocó, cuyo verdadero nombre era Jorge Revilla, pero qué poco importa eso, jamás tuvo pelos en la lengua y esa fue una actitud que le ocasionó admiradores y detractores con igual pasión.

Silvania se mudó a Madrid e hicieron de la música, de la noche y de la cultura de la ciudad un lugar mucho más emocionante. Impulsaron el club Galax, dedicado a la electrónica que emergía en los 90, llevaron la dirección artística del subsello dedicado a la electrónica de Elefant (donde grabaron la mayor parte de su carrera como Silvania) y, posteriormente, Cocó fue el programador del escenario más arriesgado del Festival de Benicàssim, el Chill Out.

Durante años él estuvo ligado a la organización del festival e influyó siempre en su actitud más avanzada. Cocó odiaba lo previsible, la prensa musical formalista y aburrida, la juventud adocenada, la complacencia.

Dio por finiquitada una etapa y decidió tomar las riendas de su carrera. Él y Mario cambiaron Silvania por Ciëlo, rompieron los contratos y crearon su propio sello, Click New Wave. Para autoeditarse, para no depender, para cambiar el mundo. Y así fue.

La singularidad, que no extravagancia

Cocó Ciëlo cambiaba la vida de cualquier persona que le conociera. Su estética, deudora del futurismo y la new wave, no se parecía a nada ni a nadie, sólo a él. Su radicalidad en una España cada día más gris empujaba al que le seguía a un tipo de barricada artística, necesaria, extravagante y única.

Periodistas y amigos decían de él que desde Fabio McNamara este país no había tenido la suerte de encontrarte alguien tan transgresormente pop como él. Desde hace añs y ya para siempre Cocó Ciëlo es una estrella.

Some months ago I was in a hotel room... Boyfriend was sleeping, I wasn't tired at all. A TV set, a remote and me flicking through the channels until Jack Black and his School of Rock showed up. At first I thought it would be a waste of time, but gave it a shot anyway. My first impression was correct after all, but a scene of the movie was particularly remarkable: Jack Black playing a Stevie Nicks song in a jukebox. I'd known Fleetwood Mac for years then, but I had never heard any of their solo material. The song just stuck in my head, thou' the only quote of the lyrics I could recall later was "seventeen". Went to a CD store, took a Stevie Nicks' Greatest Hits album and there it was: Edge of Seventeen. The damn song was so fucking good I had to download it as soon as getting home. As I heard it over 100 times (you can check that here at last.fm), it actually changed my perspective on the 80's. I used to think it was a decade to regret and be ashamed of, at least when it came to music. But the fierceness of the vocals of a cocain-addicted Miss Stevie Nicks, the repetitive and provocative guitar base-pattern, the sudden beats of the drums, the whole frantic atmosphere of it made me realize I was missing ten years of musical possibilities there. I started paying more attention to any material I already had from that time and started digging out some more, asking friends what they thought were great hits. Here I am, then, to present what I've compiled. It's not definitive, that's absolutely sure (suggestions are most certainly welcome). Napad na "Czułego Barbarzyńcę" okazał się owocny. Mam nową książkę i nie zawaham się jej przeczytać! Zaczytałem się nawet jakoś tak z 4 godziny na miejscu, a miejsce przytulne.. szkoda jedynie że dość daleko :( . nic to.. wydaje mi się , że co najmniej jeden lub więcej dni w miesiącu zacznę tam spędzać. :) taki kaprys.
