Death 1983 yılında 16 yaşındaki gitarist/vokalist Chuck Schuldiner, gitarist Rick Rozz ve baterist Barney `Kam` Lee önderliğinde Florida, Amerika’da kuruldu. Gurubun ilk adı Mantas idi ama daha sonra DEATH adını aldılar. Grup Venom ve Slayer`dan etkilenmişti ama farklı birşey yapmak niyetindeydiler ve Chuck`ın sert vokalini kullanmaya karar verdiler. 1987 yılında çıkardıkları «Scream Bloody Gore» albümü ile bütün metal müzik piyasasını yerinden salladılar. Bu kadar sert, keskin ritmleri ve vokali olan bir müziğe insanlar alışık değillerdi ama ardından pek çok vokalist Chuck`in stilini taklit edip death metal yapmaya karar verdiler.

1989 yılında efsanevi «Leprosy» albümünü çıkardıklarında bütün dünya tarafından tanınmışlardı. İlk defa Amerika dışına çıkıp Avrupa turnesine çıktılar. Albüm müthiş sansasyon yaratmıştı. Bütün müzik piyasası bu yeni müzik stilini ve yaratıcılarını hayranlıkla izliyordu. 1990 tarihli «Spiritual Healing» ve 1991 tarihli «Human» albümleri ile yerlerini iyice sağlamlaştırmışlardı. Artık turnelerde ana grup olarak sahneye çıkıyorlar, festivallere onur konuğu olarak davet ediliyorlardı. Steve Digiorgio ve James Murphy`nin katılımı ile grup sertliğine teknik ekleyince grubun müziğindeki kalite de iyice yükselmişti. Bu 1993 yılında çıkan muhteşem «Individual Thought Patterns» albümünde çok net olarak görülebiliyor. Bu albüm pek çok metal dergisinde death metal müzik tarihinde yapılan en iyi albüm seçildi.

1995 yılında «Symbolic» albümü çıktıktan sonra James Murphy ve Steve DiGiorgio gruptan ayrıldılar bu grubun bir süre müzikten uzak kalmasına yol açtı.

i hate when people mixture things, i don't care about the life of the band members or how they are in their lifes, i just listen to the music if it's good and i like it, and anyway you can't know for sure the "real" reason why they left. BTW i second what Bone7hrower said.

I didn't specifically say it was you, there's plenty of actual fan boys on here that would argue that he was the nicest person and a 'god' amongst men, which is not true at all. If he continued to make stuff more like 'sound pf perseverance' it would be no good anyhow.

ok I watched the video. you may be right in certain aspects, but I don't care about his personality or his ego, and I don't think the debate is at that point. I just wanted to express my admiration for his music, I'm not worshipping him or shit like that, he was a human being like you and me. I just really wished that such a talented musician was still alive and making good stuff, in control denied, death or any other band. that's all man.

I mean look at the amount of musicians that had joined Death. Chuck had a huge ego and was a dick to everyone off camera where his little 'status' wouldn't be affected. He acted differently than he did in interviews.
