  • Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll ?!

    4 Eyl 2008, 02:58 yazan patycarvalho

Então. Agora está na modinha falar que qualquer banda nova é indie.
Mas qual seria o verdadeiro significado de Indie?!
O que seria uma banda Indie pra vc?!
    http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_rock

    Segundo a Wikipedia:

Seria o Indie a nova modinha?!

    Glamourous Indie Rock And Roll

E aqui ficam as minhas dicas...

    Points of Order:

    • Bridesmaid Revisited Tour 2008 hits the road in November
    • Reminder: Always the Bridesmaid vinyl pre-order happening now

    Adored Mailing List Recipients,
In our last e-missive, there was a passing reference to the fact that summer is upon us. That, my friends, does not appear to still be true in some northwestern climes. Fall seems to be creeping in with its mossy, moldering fingers.

And so: what better time to hit the road to bring our Decemberists' entertainments to the public, to the masses? And so: the Decemberists will be bringing the Bridesmaid Revisted Tour 2008 to a few fair US cities in November. Dates are as follow:

    11-05 New York, NY - Terminal 5
11-06 Boston, MA - The Orpheum
11-07 Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory
    11-08 Baltimore, MD - Ram’s Head Live
11-09 Ithaca, NY - Cornell University, Barton Hall
11-11 Montclair, NJ - Wellmont Theatre
11-24 Los Angeles, CA - The Wiltern
11-25 San Francisco, CA - Warfield Theatre
11-29 Portland, OR - Crystal Ballroom
11-30 Seattle, WA - The Moore Theatre

A limited number of pre-order tickets go on sale today, September 2nd, to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis at http://www.musictoday.com/redirect/bounce.asp?cid=35714 . General ticket on-sales begin on Saturday, September 6th for East Coast dates and on Saturday, September 13th for West Coast dates. Our good friends and fellow PDXers Loch Lomond will be opening the dates.

And, as we mentioned last time, pre-orders are also being accepted for the Always the Bridesmaid: A Singles Series vinyl releases. Via http://www.decemberistsshop.com, one can either order the three installments in one shot and receive in a tidy package in December, or order them one by one and receive them as they are released (Vol. I on Oct. 14th, Vol. II on Nov. 4th and Vol. III on Dec. 2nd).

    That's all!

    Yours,
    The Decemberists

Lmao, well 18's Frédéric Chopin...so I'm not sippin' any hater-aid here.

    15. Why do like 14's songs?

The Shins, oh that was when I was in 9th grade and walking to school with my boyfriend on a very cloudy day. It was pretty nice.

The Beatles, well I'm taking it that CDs means albums, so...I have nine.

    23. Does 21 have a song that makes you cry?
The Mariner's Revenge Song could be pretty nostaligia-y ever since someone said it was a ballad in English class and didn't play the entire song, and I was bummed, because I love the entire song. Oh well, grow up brit.

Akron/Family's Love Love Love 2 sure is optimistic.

  • 30 Questions based on my Top 30 Artists.

    30 Ağu 2008, 23:39 yazan ikahro

OK, so this is not my idea, I saw it somewhere else, I think it was in a Last.fm group and I liked the idea, the randomness... so let's see.

    1. How did you get into 29? Daft Punk
I was in High School and ÇalAround the World was getting a serious amount of airplay on MTV that year (back when MTV was still good). I loved the concept of the video, I've always loved Michel Gondry's work, and the tune blew my mind so I decided to give 'Homework' a shot. It got me hooked.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? Yael Naïm
    ÇalNew Soul

    3. How many albums by 13 do you own? Cat Power
Three: The Covers Record, The Greatest and Jukebox.

    4. What is your favorite song by 15? Portishead
Hmm... that's a though one. I guess it would have to be either ÇalRoads or ÇalOver. Although I can't keep ÇalSilence (off the latest album) off my head.

    5. What is your favorite song by 5? Beirut
    That's easy! Cliquot.

    6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy? Yann Tiersen
Definitely, yes. Two, actually: ÇalJ'y Suis Jamais Allé and ÇalA quai.

    7. What is your favorite song by 10? Goldfrapp
If I have to pick just one: ÇalNumber 1. But this is just so unfair, so I will pick one more: ÇalA&E.

    8. What is a good memory you have involving 30? Camille
Just finding about her music and being amazed by the beauty of Le fil. C'est magnifique!

    9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy? Stephen Fretwell
No! At least, not in the sense of a tune being uplifting, but in that of allowing myself to be amazed by such beauty in his compositions. Because realizing that such beauty exists makes me happy.

    10. How many times have you seen 25 live? Death Cab for Cutie
    Uhm. None...

    ÇalHeartbeats

Tough one. But I guess Want One.

    No, but I'm dying to.

    15. What is a good memory involving 27? Carla Bruni

    ÇalYou Make It Easy Beautiful.

Wow, can't really remember. I guess it was a cover... her version of 'ÇalEnjoy the Silence'. I found it excruciating. But then I heard what she did on the 'Great expectations' soundtrack. Bravo.

Ha ha... None. It seems that every time this question comes up, is on artists I've not yet seen.

    24. What is the worst song by 12? Björk
Well, I'd like to say none, but she does have some avant-garde shit which I don't totally understand, most of it on Medulla. But I can't name a specific track.

    25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28? The White Stripes

    SONGS OF AUGUST

It's been a just over three weeks since my return to Australia, and it is great to be back. But most importantly it is great to be back buying cd's and being able to download music that I have been meaning to get my hands on for some number of months. So far this month my highly rotated albums have been the latest releases from Coldplay, Ida Maria, MGMT, Panic At The Disco and Death Cab For Cutie. Over the next month I have only two gigs lined up (I'm trying to go to a few less gigs lately, and not overdo myself). I cannot wait for We Are Scientist's solo show in Melbourne, as I have backstage passes (woo!), and Faker's concert will be another great "Faker experience".

The following are my top 40 songs during the month of August:

1- Death Cab for Cutie- I Will Possess Your Heart
With a fantastic lengthy intro, it takes over 4 minutes until you hear Ben Gibbard's unique vocal chords. The highlight of this song is the 'all of a sudden' fade out of the instruments as Ben Gibbard's voice sounds.

    2- MGMT- Electric Feel
Formally known as 'The Management', MGMT provide another knock-out song from their debut album. Look out for MGMT's next single, 'Kids' which will be hitting radio airwaves soon.

3- Black Kids- Listen To Your Body Tonight
One of the great albums of 2008, 'Partie Traumatic' brings you nothing but upbeat indie-party anthems and 'Listen To Your Body Tonight' is no exception.

    4- Coldplay- Lost!
It took me a while to finally get into Coldplay's forth installment, but now I'm slowly falling for it. Apart from the current singles 'Lost!' is another stand-out from 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends'..

5- Ida Maria- I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked

6- The Ting Tings- Shut Up And Let Me Go

7- The Pigeon Detectives- Everybody Wants Me

8- The Presets- Talk Like That
Aussie duo are paving the way for Australian electro acts such as Van She.

9- Conor Oberst- I Don’t Want to Die (In the Hospital)

10- The National- Start A War

    11- Glasvegas- Daddy's Gone

12- Florence and The Machine- Kiss with a Fist

13- Panic at the Disco- There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet
I have found myself backtracking on Panic At The Disco's debut album from 2005. Jazz-inspired track, 'There's A Good Reason...' was one of the highlight songs at Panic At The Disco's latest Australian tour.

14- The Blackout- Prepare For A Wound
I first witnessed 'The Blackout' at T in The Park (Scotland Music Festival) during July this year opening the NME Stage. 'Prepare For A Wound' brought a climax to the post-hardcore welshmen T In The Park set.

15- I Was a Cub Scout- Save Your Wishes

    16- The Rasmus-In The Shadows

17- Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong- Where'd You Go

    18- Lisa Mitchell- Neopolitan Dreams

    19- Amy McDonald- Run

    20- Vampire Weekend- One

21- Bloc Party- One Month Off

22- Mystery Jets- Half In Love With Elizabeth

23- Something With Numbers- Stay With Me Bright Eyes

24- The Futureheads- This Is Not The World

25- The Verve- Sit And Wonder
