Anybody think they understand how 'Darkwave' came to be applied to DVKE and Dargaard? I understand the definition, as stated in Wikipedia, but the term itself still puzzles me. This kind of music is probably closest to neoclassical, but it's very medieval and gothic in its approach. Just curious.

I was just thinking...you can kind of make the argument that darkwave music is more dense and has more going on, whereas dark ambient usually is purely synth driven and has more breathing room...in other words, there's more space between notes. It may not always apply, but in general I think that might hold true. This is just a theory, and is open to criticism. =)
