Dünyanın dört bir yanını dolaşmak ve diğer kültürlerle tanışmak…Bunlar hem bir müzisyen hem bir insan olarak şarkıcı, şarkı sözü yazarı, besteci ve gitarist Mark Jansen’in başarısının temel kaynaklarının özetidir. Çevresindeki dünyaya duyduğu sınırsız ilginin en son kanıtı, son zamanlarda keşfedilen Hollandalı grup Epica’nın rengarenk ilk albümüdür.
Epica’nın içinde birçok çeşitlilik barındıran müziği tam anlamıyla bunu yanısıtıyor…Aynı zamanda, dünyanın Güney Amerikayı da içine alan diğer kısımlarının etkileri de tarzlarını, kendilerini ifade eden bu ilk albümdeki şarkılarda bulurlar. Grup, müziklerine mümkün olduğu kadar çeşitli deneyim ve izlenim ekleyebilmek için, birçok gezinti yapmak niyetinde…
Başarılı Hollandalı grup After Forever’ın yaratıcı kanatlarından biri olarak geçirdiği kısa ve fırtınalı bir süreçten sonra, Mark Jansen kendini son olarak yine yeni bir başlangıç yapmaya zorlanmış gibi hissetti. Bunu sezdiği gün artık eski grubuyla bir gelecekleri olmadığını düşündü ve bu düşünce yeni bir meydan okuma, hesaplaşma şeklinde olgunlaştı…Görüşmeler yapıldı, yeni grup için seçmeler gerçekleştirildi ve grup için bir isim düşünüldü…Önceleri grup ismi olarak Sahara Dust kullanıldı, fakat 2003’ün ilk haftalarında bu isim, kesin bir şekilde Epica olarak değiştirildi. Embriyonik aşamada grup, Trail of Tears’ın solisti Norveçli şarkıcı Helena Michaelsen ile çalışsa da sonraları belirleyici seçim Hollandalı genç yetenek Simone Simons’dan yana oldu.

Epica has so much potential, but all three of their albums just fall short. The next album better take a hint from CtO (not TDC) and be truly amazing. I know they're capable of it.

TmBmbadl: Haha yeah it sucks it's only for 800 people D: I had to call the "ex-wife of the friend of a the brother of a half-brother of the father of my co-worker, blah blah" that lives in Valencia to see if she could buy me a couple. I live far away from the places where they are selling and I don't know anyone there, I hope the trip is worth it and they give a good show here.

And keeping with the tour thing, I haven't bought tickets for their concert here in Venezuela and I just read that it's going to be for 800 people and I'm not sure how big their fanbase is here, I hope there're some left.

Who cares if she's young though? Listen to Floor and Vibeke when they were only 18-19 and they sounded amazing on both PoD and WW.

You sir are winner, in this kind of music vocals while important, are not the only thing to look for, there is the guitar, bass, drums, atmosphere, etc. But there are female vocalists worth of praise too like Yma Sumac, but those are very rare and the music they play is different also.

Recently got their The Divine Conspiracy, wow, what an album! The title track is the far best musical sensation I have undergone for quite a while. Simply can't stop listening to it!

Well, her voice isn't the best thing ever but is good and goes very well with the whole package: music, grunts and female vocals, it's the same with Liv who haves a beautiful yet weak voice... they know how to use it in a convenient way.

Well Floor IS amazing. Vibeke I have said does nothing for me. And I think Simone gets a lot of attention because she is the youngest, and because she is pretty darn cool. But I do agree they focus on ALL frontwomen of these bands way too much.

Leishtek is truly right! and well I stand by what I said about Simone being overrated cause IMO she is they focus WAY to much on her and yet her voice isn't even THAT good I mean just compare her to Floor or Vibeke? they have much more trained voices yet Simone gets more attention cause "she's hot"

"Simone is overrated" The same could be said about any other singer, like Floor, Liv or Vibeke, nowadays everyone is overrated. And a quick question, are they still playing Crystal Mountain? I think I'll go see them in a couple of months and it'd be nice if they played it.

Also, please bring back Mark's semi highpitched pissed off screams ala the end of Facade of Reality. Mark is awesome but he almost sounds monotone on tDC.

Simone is overrated, but then again who isn't? ~_~ But her development since Sahara Dust is undeniable. Listen to the original Cry for the Moon and then Chasing the Dragon. She will get better. :) Very much looking forward to the next album. :)
