I thought that Glenn's guitar symphony sounded like a great idea, until I learned that none of them could actually play, and their "music" was horrible. There was no musical talent in this music, period. Saying that you like him because he was taking an unusual direction is the same as saying that raccoons killed under Michelin tires taste better with the correct balance of pepper and salt than other roadkill.

ASCENSION is one of the best albums of all time. I really like everything by this guy though.

like the sequel, but i don't get what's up with the tracks. why did he bother splitting them up if the first three are basically exactly the same song? even given rhythmic variation and minor subtle changes, why not just incorporate them all into one track and make lesson 3 the second song? i feel like i am missing something here.

I think Glenn has Ascension 3 mostly written, but no one has seen it yet (well, maybe his wife). It took a few gigs and about 3 months of familiarity with the pieces in the sequel before the recording took place, and another 3 months to mix, master, and duplicate it... so I wouldn't expect Three for a little while. Don't know about the other reissues he's planning for Systems Neutralizers... maybe he's holding it back like Disney did with Fantasia!

The Spectacular Commodity, First Movement (Slow Mass), Light Field (In Consonance), Lesson No. 1 For Electric Guitar, i'm sure they must have other tracks as good as these, could someone name some?

it *may* come out on vinyl in the next year- right now it's cd only or download... I'm a little biased as too it's quality, since I'm on it, so I don't want to say. but the Village Voice said: "The Ascension: The Sequel—Branca's first new album in 12 years, and first with a small band since the '80s—is his balls-out rock record... "That was the idea: It's the sequel, it's old-school, and it kicks ass," Branca says of this new work's behemoth crunch, obvious from the opening three-minute ecstatic shred of "The Tone Row That Ruled the World," the infectiously coiled mind-meld "Lesson No. 3 (Tribute to Steve Reich)," and the 20-minute cataclysmic trip "The Blood.""

I think I'm going to buy it digitally tonight, although I wish it would come out on vinyl. How is it anyway..compared to the original ascension?

I listen to it all the time- on my stereo... i don't let LastFM see what I'm listening to or watching... just my paranoia... i don't know what the holdup is with Amazon... it is being fulfilled by their warehouse (Glenn isn't personally packing cds and waiting in line at the post office). maybe the shipping options are weird for some reason- media mail or something... Anyway, it's also now available for legal download: http://www.digstation.com/GlennBranca I hope people like it, everyone put a lot of work into the recording.

yup The Ascension: The Sequel officially came out yesterday. Glenn is putting it out on his own label, so it may not be widely available in stores for a little bit. In the meantime, you can buy it directly from him here: http://www.amazon.com/Ascension-Sequel-Glenn-Branca/dp/B0037GTHMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AADUHOOL1K9S9&s=generic&qid=1266522783&sr=1-1

"The Ascension: Three" 5. "Symphony No. 13 (Hallucination City) for 100 guitars" 6. "Symphony No. 4 (Physics) live in Europe 1983" '

The Ascension: The Sequel is being released on Feb 27th, and we'll be playing the entire album that night at Le Poisson Rouge. please come out, it will be a fun night- Robert Longo is giving a slide show!!!! http://lepoissonrouge.com/events/view/881 the sequel is in the same tuning and instrumentation as the original (4 guitars, 1 bass, drums) with Glenn conducting. unlike the original, it's in full staff notation. Lesson No 1 is good if you like The Ascension. I'd also recommend Symphonies 6, 8, and 10, which are available. and if you ever get a chance to see Symphony No 13 (for 100 guitars) live, you shouldn't pass it up- not sure if any further performances are planned for the piece (it's tough in this economy for arts groups to pull together that kind of funding).
