  • Emotiquon LIVE @ King Tuts PODCASTIQUON!!!

    8 May 2008, 21:50 yazan mr_dimensional

A LIVE recording of Emotiquon's improvised live set @ King Tuts Wah Wah Hut (supporting We Smoke Fags) in Glasgow!!!

After their exciting live performance at The Altitude Festival 2008 (supporting the phenomenal Grand National), Emotiquon were invited to perform at the infamous Glasgow venue, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut.

Supporting upcoming new electro-punk act We Smoke Fags alongside synthpop pioneer iamchemist, Emotiquon knew that the pressure was on! However, without their library of new sounds and tracks (all contained within their treasured external hard-drive which they left behind in France after their last gig), the set had to be completely IMPROVISED!!!

The THEME for this performance was aptly "Close Encounters"!!!

Illustrating that Emotiquon can perform well under pressure and with virtually NO preparation at all, this podcast should entertain all fans of electronic music...

  • 28 inches of vinyl for yr pleasure...

    6 May 2008, 23:24 yazan thisisall1word

OK - these are a few weeks old cus I missed em last week and was too lazy to write them up over the weekend. My Bad. Out of this lot I have only heard of one band (Grand National) and have no idea about the other 3 except that the pictures on the sleeves were pretty. Yes, yes, frivolous purchasing maybe but I expect high things from them.
OK - lets see how this works; I will review them from front covers only and then play them after...

The Shortwave Set - No Social (4)

Intricate circular themed front cover so I'm expecting patterned music maybe math-rock but with quite light heartedness not heavy.

    No Age - Eraser (3.5)

Stodgy Psychedelic with thick chords and cool weirdness

White Rabbits - While We Go Dancing (3)

Rural Lo-fi ramshackle folk in a guillemots/kid harpoon style.

OK, lets see how I did...

    The Shortwave Set
    Çalno social (4.5)
    ÇalWhite Lie (2.5)
Aha - wrong, kind of, but it is light and airyish, in a good way, and it has a cracking chorus that reminds me of something in the back of my memory... well, could it be Hash pipe by Weezer? Wow. Think of a glam Tunng crossed with Roxy Music and and and its a real winner! I was tempted to give it 5/5 but I'll save that for now. This is brilliant. Go check them/this out. NOW!
3 plays in a row and I am in love.
The B side is good but not a patch on the A, a more beat driven tune which still draws a cross-stitch of musical threads together nicely for the chorus.

    No Age
    Eraser (3.5)
Not stodgy thick but multicoloured creamy all the same here - bit Animal Collective from 6/7 yrs ago and sweetly short but weird and cool.
All 3 B sides are short cool and fuzzy, in turn VU, Ramones and more AC - first 2 recorded in a toilet somewhere, last one under the stars and under the influence...

    White Rabbits
    ÇalWhile We Go Dancing (3)
ÇalTake A Walk Around The Table (2.5)
Not Lo-Fi! But Kid H/Guillemots reference might be closer, as would a sweetly pop Larriken Love - maybe.
Oh, its on Fierce Panda - a constant fave... which made me think that they were UK based but not so - born in the USA this lot.

    Grand National
By The Time I Get Home There Won't Be Much Of A Place For Me (2)
By The Time I Get Home There Won't Be Much Of A Place For Me (Lismore remix) (2)
Shades of early 90s electronic influenced indie pop and a mouthful of a title. Would have been a hit on the student dance floors in 1991 maybe but that was a while back and that was then, this is now, etc...
The remix reminds me of more of New Order sans Hooky - s'ok.

More Shortwave Set I think! Yey!

    EMOTIQUON NEWSIQUON!!!

After the success of our Altitude Festival debut, we're pleased to announce that Rupert & La (Grand National) have given us the go-ahead to remix any song of our choosing!

We've decided to have a shot at their excellent "ÇalDrink to Moving On" track, from their debut album Kicking the National Habit. We're awaiting the original parts to the track from Rupert.

The rather entertaining (Tetris inspired) video to the track is on YouTube:

You can visit Grand National at:

    www.myspace.com/grand_national

    or

    www.grand-national.net

    OTHER NEWS:

We've just completed our remix of the Glasgow electro/techno pioneer ESPION track "ÇalThe Ascension". The single & remix will be available mid-May.

You can hear more from ESPION at:

    www.myspace.com/espion

    EVEN MORE NEWS:

We've been invited by Spanish DJ collective Buffetlibre to perform a cover version of an original 80's track for their forthcoming "REWIND" project (due for release in July).

We're choosing an old The Human League track "ÇalWXJL Tonight", taken from their 1980 album Travelogue. It's from a time when Phil Oakey worked with Ian Craig Marsh & Martin Ware (who then went on to form Heaven 17, of "ÇalTemptation" fame), We feel it's an apt choice, as:

1 - We're huge The Human League fans.

2 - We've already released the Dimensional Love Machine remix of Heaven 17's "ÇalI'm Gonna Make You Fall in Love With Me"! (available to buy online NOW!)

Buffetlibre are the Spanish DJ collective who gave us the original parts to Shitdisco's "ÇalReactor Party". Our remix is currently gaining attention across the world-wide web, and has already been played on several radio shows and in clubs around the world!!!

We feel it's an honour and a sign of respect to both Buffetlibre & The Human League to be asked to complete this exciting new task....

After winning the Bebo/Altitude Festival 2008 band competition, Emotiquon travel to Meribel in The French Alps to support Grand National on the main stage...

The journey does not go quite as expected! Emotiquon are rather silly.

This video podcast documents James Mechanoid & Shaun Dimensional's preposterous trip from Schiphol International Airport, to Meribel in the French Alps... home of The Altitude Festival 2008!!!

    EMOTIQUON NEWSIQUON!!!

After the success of our Altitude Festival debut, we're pleased to announce that Rupert & La (Grand National) have given us the go-ahead to remix any song of our choosing!

We've decided to have a shot at their excellent ÇalDrink to Moving On track, from their debut album Kicking the National Habit. We're awaiting the original parts to the track from Rupert.

The rather entertaining (Tetris inspired) video to the track is on YouTube:

You can visit Grand National at:

    or

    OTHER NEWS:

We've just completed our remix of the Glasgow electro/techno pioneer ESPION track ÇalThe Ascension. The single & remix will be available mid-May.

You can hear more from ESPION at:

    www.myspace.com/espion

    EVEN MORE NEWS:

We've been invited by Spanish DJ collective Buffetlibre to perform a cover version of an original 80's track for their forthcoming REWIND project (due for release in July).

We're choosing an old The Human League track ÇalWXJL Tonight, taken from their 1980 album Travelogue. It's from a time when Phil Oakey worked with Ian Craig Marsh & Martin Ware (who then went on to form Heaven 17, of ÇalTemptation fame), We feel it's an apt choice, as:

1 - We're huge The Human League fans.

2 - We've already released the Dimensional Love Machine remix of Heaven 17's ÇalI'm Gonna Make You Fall in Love With Me! (available to buy online NOW!)

Buffetlibre are the Spanish DJ collective who gave us the original parts to Shitdisco's ÇalReactor Party. Our remix is currently gaining attention across the world-wide web, and has already been played on several radio shows and in clubs around the world!!!

We feel it's an honour and a sign of respect to both Buffetlibre & The Human League to be asked to complete this exciting new task....
