Thu 31 Jul – Muse, Jay Vaquer

Logo que anunciaram a turnê do Muse pelo Brasil, imaginei que a Pitty fosse dar um jeito de ser escalada pra abrir todas as apresentações, já que ela é a maior fã da banda inglesa. Antes fosse a Pitty. Alguém teve a brilhante idéia de escalar Jay Vaquer, nossa mistura de Trent Reznor (ele acha) com Maurício Manieri (eu concluí), mais famoso por ter inventado o drible do vaquer no Rockgol do que por qualquer hit radiofônico. Com letras péssimas ("ela partiu pra bem longe, ela partiu ao meio") e cinco sujeitos na banda (o que pega mal especialmente se logo depois você for superado por apenas três músicos), Vaquer "entreteu" o eclético público do HSBC Brasil das 21h às 21h45.

Para definir o ambiente, um breve senso demográfico: no meu raio de ação, tinha metaleiro com camisa do Dream Theater; um cover de Axl Rose; tiazinhas roqueiras de cabelo roxo; indies, of course; menininhas de Shopping Center; nerds do depto de TI de alguma multinacional; e até dois emos. Não foi nem de longe aquele desfile de figuras freak que saem dos porões das profundezas do underground paulistano, como no show do Placebo. Eu até fiquei feliz por achar que os emos iriam chorar comigo em "Invincible", mas eles estavam mais preocupados em fotografar, filmar, flickar, youtubar e twittar o show, e eu acabei chorando sozinho. Que vergonha.

O Muse subiu ao palco com um atraso de uns 20 minutos. Palco bastante simples perto da suntuosidade do show de Wembley registrado no DVD "H.A.A.R.P.", que é a razão de ser da turnê (à venda por R$ 70 na barraquinha oficial). Apesar da decoração franciscana, alguns efeitos estavam reservados para mais tarde, como estouros de fumaça, bexigas gigantes e algumas estripulias visuais no telão.

A banda começou o show com o épico morriconeano "Knights of Cydonia", e os "ôôôôs" de um público enlouquecido não deixaram dúvidas: estávamos diante de um show de heavy metal. Tenho certeza de que o grito "olê, olê, olê, olê, Musê, Musê" deve ter sido criado por algum espirituoso fã de Iron Maiden. Trata-se de um show de muito soquinho no ar e o inevitável air guitar - os solos e os riffs têm tanta força que às vezes o air guitar não é suficiente e a melodia é entoada em coro pela platéia.

Desde o primeiro grito de guitarra distorcida, quem manda no show é o vocalista afetado, o guitarrista virtuoso, o pianista sofrido e showman carismático Matthew Bellamy. Matt é um deus dourado e o maior guitar hero da década ao lado do Jack White. Os papéis de coadjuvante de respeito cabem ao baixista Chris Wolstenholme e ao baterista Dominic Howard, que emocionou-se com nossa tradicional receptividade, disse que nós somos a melhor platéia do mundo e emendou um "you rock, São Paulo", numa das únicas interações da banda com o público além de alguns "obrigados". Ao lado da bateria, o tecladista convidado Morgan Nicholls, responsável pelos efeitos que Bellamy não consegue reproduzir na guitarra - porque apesar de multitarefa ele só tem dois braços, afinal de contas.

O Muse apresentou um repertório quase perfeito baseado no último disco, "Black Holes and Revelations". Além de "Invincible" (ninguém levantou camiseta do São Paulo, um absurdo), tivemos "Starlight" (com a melhor sessão-palminhas de todos os tempos), "Supermassive Black Hole", "Map of the Problematique" e "Take a Bow", que fechou o bis. De "Absolution", vieram "Hysteria" (título muito apropriado), "Butterflies and Hurricanes (com direito o solo de piano e efeitos especiais), "Stockholm Syndrome" (já no bis) e o hit "Time is Running Out", um dos muitos momentos de alucinação coletiva de uma apresentação impecável, que justifica todos os prêmios de melhor show da Europa que o Muse costuma receber. De "Origin of Symmetry", vieram as pauladas de "New Born" e "Plug In Baby", numa sequência particularmente emocionante, e as surpresas de "Feeling Good", famosa na voz de Nina Simone, "Bliss" e "Citizen Erased". A se lamentar apenas a ausência do álbum "Showbiz" na lista, mas não se pode querer tudo nessa vida.

Em um nível mais pessoal, o show de ontem realizou alguns sonhos. Sempre imaginei que "New Born" e "Plug In Baby" deveriam ser um negócio transcedental ao vivo, e são mesmo. E também exorcizou alguns demônios, porque além de tudo as letras e os riffs de Bellamy falam bem a minha língua desde que lá na virada da década alguém me mandou ouvir Muse, já que eu gostava tanto de Radiohead. 99% dos fãs de Muse começaram assim, não é?

Em um nível mais globalizado, de todas as bandas que estouraram nessa década e que tive a oportunidade de conferir ao vivo (Coldplay, Strokes, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand), nenhuma é capaz de chegar perto do Muse em cima do palco. Ainda há quem limite o som da banda a uma mera cópia de Radiohead, mas isso é preguiça e má vontade desse povo, porque embora as vozes sejam MUITO parecidas, o Muse passou da fase "The Bends" há algum tempo e já ganhou vida própria, como comprova o tamanho da banda em território europeu. Eu tenho alguns conceitos bem definidos na minha mente com relação a tamanho de bandas, e levantar Wembley é um dos quesitos que diferenciam um Queen de um Arctic Monkeys. A reação daquela platéia tão diversificada ontem, do começo ao final do show sem parar, comprova minha tese.
