  • What of today's music will become the "old chesnuts"?

    10 Şub 2007, 17:04 yazan rainerfloo

Alison and I were just talking about this after my last choir concert, which featured an intermission singalong of stuff I didn't know the words to but do understand to be sort of standards or what have you. But they're all from the 40s and earlier. Will nothing more modern accompany us into the future as tunes everyone in an auditorium knows the words to?

  • Finbar's Driving Songs

    27 Eyl 2006, 14:13 yazan Fianbarr

Founded by my attempt to get my driving licence, and the Top Gear: The Ultimate Driving Experience (disc 1) & Top Gear: The Ultimate Driving Experience (disc 2) compilation I found I have gotten the inspiration to make my own driving songs compilation.

    A few "rules".

    The song must be:
    - uptempo
    - catchy
    - have a tendency to stuck inside your head.
    - must be a 'aged / matured' so none of the quickly come quickly gone today chart songs.

Here is what I have come up so far. (it is a "work in progress" so additions are greatly apreciated).

    Spider Murphy Gang
    Skandal im Sperrbezirk
Very kewl german track, got the idea of this 'compilation' while listening to this song

    Letters to Cleo
I Want You to Want Me
Was going for the Cheap Trick version first, but this one sounds better.

    Dick Dale and His Del-Tones
    ÇalMisirlou
Catches the spirit very well. Ofcourse it will be the version with the 'pulp fiction' intro. Also like the way this song is used in the opening credits of 'taxi'

    Genesis
    ÇalJesus He Knows Me
Just a good uptempto track that encourages to 'sing along'

    breeders
    Cannonball
This would be the opening song of the compilation, because of the killer intro and buildup to the main riff.

    Heart
    ÇalBarracuda
    Again killer riff.

    AC/DC
    Whole Lotta Rosie (live)
The live version with the public shouting 'rosie' and the riff. Woa. Thunderstruck is still a candidate as well, but since only one song can go on the compilation I have to go for rosie.

    Tracy Ullman
    Breakaway
First non rock song to make it on the list. Is just so fast and happy. Bursting with energy.

    Weezer
    ÇalBuddy Holly
Kewl track with a great clip and kewl sound.

    Golden Earring
    ÇalRadar Love
A classic song, got to be on the list.

    Sid Vicious
    ÇalMy Way
Cut the first minute-and-a-half and begin with the punk. Great sing-a-long

    Status Quo
    Whatever You Want

    Joey Ramone
    ÇalWhat a Wonderful World
Very energetic rock cover of a great song.

    Nena
    ÇalNur geträumt

    R.E.M.
ÇalIt's the End of the World as We Know It
And I feel fine... sing along with a good guitar riff. Fits the profile like a glove.

    Flogging Molly
    ÇalDrunken Lullabies
    Irish influenced pop-rock-punk is great!

    dropkick murphy's
    Rocky Road To Dublin
I was first going for 'Fiels of Athenry' or the "spicy mchaggis jig' but both were to slow. This isn't

    Not so certain candidates
    Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
    I Love Rock and Roll
Good song, but I am afraid it is too slow to make it onto the compilation.

    Derek And The Dominoes
    Layla
Great track, it has a very very very great guitar riff. But again too slow, really.
