Hemophiliac is AWESOME... I got it the other night and it's a free improv masterpiece. What are we gunna do when Zorn dies? I can't imagine anyone in existence being as good. I think I'll actually cry when he dies. *God forbid*

Masada is one of his best projects, as is the Masada string trio. Live in Sevilla 2000 is absolutely sensational. Zorn is easily one of my favourite musicians of all time. Genius.

People I'm starting to very like the Book of Angels series, this is why I created a group just for that part of Zorn's work. I'm very new with it, and i would apriciate it if someone could help me out, what should I know about this project, and what's it about.. and you might wanna join the group if it has some potentials. Sorry for my poor grammar, I tried my best. Thanks in advance anyway.

Strange. To me Invitation to a Suicide is one of Zorn's greatest records. But different opinions are what makes his body of work so interesting anyway, whatever. xD Port of Last Resort/Latin Boys go to Hell is also a great place to start into the Filmworks series I think.
-
praisingfolly şunu yazdı:
I didn't much care for Invitation to a Suicide for some reason. XIX is very good. Listening to XX more, it's not on the same level.
-
iQuizzle şunu yazdı:
I haven't heard all of the filmworks, but I have a few and really like filmworks XIX a lot...I think it's daunting to try to figure out where to start with that collection but in my experience you really can't go wrong.
-
JamesLebowski şunu yazdı:
I'd say Invitation to a Suicde. It's easy accesible, very atmospheric, and contains a lot of Zorn's humour.

oh, FWXX is the most melodic filmwork of him? knowing a lot of people who said the same about FWXIX, Zorn goes mainstream...joke! :D

To clarify a little, I want songs that focus more on cool atmospheres and melodies than the more crazy jazz improvisation.
-
Monty__ şunu yazdı:
So I've tried Naked City, Spy Vs. Spy and Moonchild out, and i prefer his (in the lack of a better description) softer stuff. Naked City is amazing. Can you people recommend an album with similiar styles?

nabraxas şunu yazdı:
Of course, he does dip deeply into the realms of Klezmer jazz and bebop...But, you might say that you can learn more about a John Zorn LISTENER rather than John Zorn himself, based on their reviews, depending on how they got introduced and which of his stylistic tangents they entered through. His ouvre is such a vast pool that any unsuspecting fan can formulate their own sort of 'divining rod' once they dive in.
