I said it before, and I'll say it again, I think that musicals should be tagged by their cast. For example, I tag my LM musicals like "Les Misérables Original London Cast" or "Les Misérables Complete Symphonic Recording." It makes it a lot easier to navigate in my music library, as well as my Last.fm library. I don't think it should be by composer, and it irks me when it does that automatically for RENT or Ave. Q.

I changed the tags to Schonberg. But I think I'm gonna change it back to Les Mis. It's easier to find in my library.

Strange, in my library I named it 'Les Miserables', Last.fm changes it automatically in 'Les Misérables' and when I come here I read something about a band I never heard of instead of the musical. Well, I ain't gonna change it ;).

i wouldn't care if they would just change les miserables to CMS on the site itself, like they do for some musicals (rent gets changed to jonathan larson automatically, for example). but i'm not going to retag my files after having scrobbled 5000 les mis songs :| my charts wouldn't be right anymore. plus, i like it this way in my music library...

Victoria: Amen, even though all the albums say it's the musical. Even if there was a way to rename them, I wouldn't; I understand getting your tags right, but this is just taking it way too far.

Is there a way of actually renaming the plays? I have i dunno, 800 plays of Les Mis.. now am i meant to just now change the name of LM, so that i have a load of plays with the composers name, and a load with LM? Or can i actually change the name.? Not that i'm actually going to, mind. Basically because they've done the same thing with Blood Brothers & Hairspray. Annoying to say the least.

It really is annoying. It's even worse with Blood Brothers because it changes it to be 'The Blood Brothers' so I re-tagged them all as Willy Russell but searching for a single track from the show I see people have tagged them as all sorts of different things. 'Blood Brothers' is even different to 'The Blood Brothers' so why can't we have both?

No matter what the bio says, I am tagging this as Les Miserables in my library...it just fits better in so many ways. You don't tag covers by the original composer; it gets messy to categorise a broadway performance and maintain consistency with the way you tag the rest of your music. So I tag it by the musical...it doesn't seem that tough to me. When I listen to another artist, I think, "I feel like listening to Pink Floyd". When I want to listen to Les Miersables, I think, "I feel like listening to Les Miserables", not, "I feel like listening to Claude-Michel shongberg (however you spell it), with Lea Salong and co singing...". If you're going to label them by singer, should you not also label every musician as well? It's too complicated. So the musical it is. LastFM's inflexibility towards this is frustrating.

I agree with you so much, ladysaw, this is REALLY ticking me off. They've done this to other musicals I listen to, as well - Wicked, for example. And Hairspray. I'm sorry but I don't think last.fm has any right to tell me how to tag my own music files. It changes "Phantom of the Opera" automatically to ALW, so it can do that for Les Miserables too for as far as I'm concerned, but I am so not changing my tags. Especially after having listened to Les Mis for 5000 times. Come on now. And NOBODY has EVER listened to this quebec band thing, check the top songs!

Argh, this really pisses me off! What are last.fm's official say in this? If there weren't a band called "Les Misérables", this wouldn't be a problem at all, now would it? It's really unfair that this rule only goes for some musical "artists" and not all. And like I said in the shout below, I'm not listening to instrumentals, I'm listening to the songs from the musical, from different compilations. But since it is fictional characters that are singing, I chose to tag them all under one name; Les Misérables. I'm not changing my tags. No way.

If I'd listen to instrumentals I'd tag them as Claude-Michel Schönberg, but I'm not.

honestly the quebec band can't have been that popular if EVERY SINGLE TRACK on the top tracks list is from the musical. down to the ones that have only been listened to once.

you guys just won't give up. face it, les mis has 23000 listeners - cms has 3000. and ALL of the top tracks are from les mis, not from some random quebec band. so stop changing the bio and the picture! gah. it's not like we use the composer for tagging pop songs. this is just easier. there IS no right way to tag musical songs, so let's just stick with the one that's easiest, and the one that most people use?

I have listened to songs from Les Mis over 2000 times. I would have to re-tag almost 100 songs. I am NOT going to change the tags. Plus, like Defygravityx and devils_avacado said, it looks much better as "Les Miserables".

It looks nicer in my library tagged simply as 'Les Misérables'. End of. Seconded [: I've kept it like that for 300+ plays, I don't want to change it now. /: Second Best Musical Ever <3

Using the name of the musical as the artist is just a lot more practical. The composer makes no sense - you don't put the composer as the artist for pop songs, either. Using the actual singers is unpractical if there's a lot of different people singing and doesn't go well with organising your library either. Considering everything else on this page is about the actual musical, the bio & picture really should be too. That aside, I LOVE les mis, one of my favourites.
