• 2008: A reflection on the year of music.

    3 Ara 2008, 19:18 yazan In_Amber_Clad

While should be studying for finals, I find my brain in a mess and Frederic Chopin's ÇalAllegro Maestoso is doing little to ease the chaos. Rather, I'll try appeasing my mind by reflecting upon the year and the music that has carried me from month to month.

Music has always been a large part of my life, but never have I been so obsessed with a single medium of entertainment. After being hired by Best Buy, I couldn't help but buy CD after CD of new artists, experiencing the new sounds and worldviews that each brought to the table.

At the end of the summer of 2007, into the beginning of my senior year, artists such as Muse and Modest Mouse remained classics in my library. Not much of my tastes had changed; I did have a preference to anything upbeat and preferred indie to any other genre.

As winter rolled around, artists like Killswitch Engage and Disturbed got me through the cold winter nights, while Coldplay's Viva La Vida lightened the mood. This was also the time when I discovered one of my all time favorites, Vampire Weekend. What a blessing they've been to my musical library.

Spring brought with "old" classics that let me relive my freshman year Halo soundtracks (Music + Xbox live = Fantastic). Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace by The Offspring graced me with it's alternative rock riffs, while I embraced the odd sound of Sigur Rós.

Now that college has rolled around, I've gotten over my "indie-only" phase, and rekindled my love for face-melting metal with bands like August Burns Red and Chiodos. I've also discovered a profound love for any type of classical music. Favorites in that genre include Bloch, Debussy, Brahms, Mussorgsky, and Chopin. I envy the shear brilliance of the minds of the classical composers.

Of course, I'm leaving out many albums that need mention. Surprise hits with me were both of Nine Inch Nails' new albums,
The Slip and Ghosts I-IV. One of my favorite albums and releases was In Rainbows by Radiohead. The only release, along with the great atmosphere the album delivered was a five star release. My friends introduced me to Colour Revolt - both their EP and Plunder, Beg, and Curse have been played all the way through multiple times.

A tad obscure, I've also found an odd pleasure from Japanese, namely found from Tsutchie, Nujabes, Fat Jon, and Force of Nature. Samurai Champloo was obviously where I discovered these artists, but their incredibly relaxed music has garnered many, many plays in iTunes.

Overall, a great year, with tastes all over the place. I hope that 2009 provides just as many as amazing albums as 2008 did, and I will continue to track my plays using the best service online: last.fm. Cheers!

Broken Social Scene sure know how to put on a concert. Wrapping up their 2008 tour with one last show in Toronto at the Sound Academy, they pulled out all the stops. Featuring special guest appearances by Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse, Emily Haines from Metric (who was unexpected to say the least) and several great highlights during their set, this was one of the best concerts that I’ve ever been to. The Beauties opened the night on a solid note as well.

  • The O.C Mix

Já no primeiro Mix,a músida ” The Way We Get By”, do episódio 5 ( O forasteiro).O episódio começa com a câmera varrendo aquela paisagem perfeita de New Port Beach, ao som de Spoon, ficou perfeito.

Welcome To The O.C Bitch !

    end transmission...
