Glad to see apparently no one making stupid negative comments about this track - majestic, soaring, beautiful, epic, awesome, immense... I actually don't think any of these words even get close to describing just quite how extraordinary this track and the rest of the album are really like to hear...

this is probably the best opening track ever. a second of two of drums and the song just explodes and soars off into the atmosphere. it's amazing to me how a song like this can be both heavy, loud, and yet soft and soothing at the same time.

Anyone who is not completely and utterly bowled over by this track simply cannot hear or feel. I still swoon every time I hear the opening sequence.

Genius. I first heard this song in 1990 when on an overseas exchange program to London during college. It reminds me so vividly of riding the tube and walking the streets of London, it's like I'm there again... such a perfect soundtrack for the trip...

IRONICtypo, almost true. She rolled in to the studio early one morning, seriously hungover and couldn't be bothered to sing, hence the whispery vocals. But this was during isn't anything, she just kept that style (which was then copied to death) from then on. This is still, has always been my favourite MBV song. To hear it live, reduced me to tears it was that special.

apparently, Kevin woke Bilinda from a sound sleep and got her to do the vocals while she was just waking up to get the exact sound out of her voice that he need for this. If this true, it is awesome.
