  • Real Rock's JRR-BQ

    10 Kas 2008, 16:25 yazan wiredillusion

So another Real Rock event, JRR-BQ (2008-11-09). this one got trimmed down from a football field near Tinker Field to Hard Rock Live. I was expecting the place to be packed, but was pretty surprised when it wasn't. GA was sold out, but I guess HRL didn't oversell like they have in the past. Typical Real Rock crowd, odd mixture of people from all over. We showed up at around 4:30 and there was a pretty good sized line, made it in at like 5:10. So here we go.

Hollywood Undead. Nothing to say. Just... wow. Should have showed up thirty minutes later.

Five Finger Death Punch: Honestly, I was surprised. I really disliked their songs off their MySpace, but they turned out to be pretty solid live. They got the crowd pumped, which got the crowd moshing, which got security angry, which got a lot of people kicked out really fast. Then they started encouraging moshing and crowd surfing... so their set was cut short. Not a smart move on their part, but that's what it's all about.

Trapt was pretty good. Their sound needed some help, but then again, msot all of the sound did that night. I've seen them better, perhaps they've lost their live edge over time.

Puddle of Mudd was enoyable this time around. They busted out part of a cover of Black Sabbath's ÇalWar Pigs as a full version of AC/DC's T.N.T. The crowd seemed to react pretty well to all of their tunes, well at least the three lesbian's in front of us. Hah.

Sevendust is where it's at for me. What can I say, I've seen them a shitload of times and they brought it like they always do. The crowd seemed really into it, but by this time they had wised up to security kicking people out for moshing and they seemed a bit tired. I still stand by the fact that Inside is an amazing opening song. Suffocate's intro is fucking badass. I miss Sonny, a lot, but goddamned I love Clint back in the band. Angel's Son was particullarly emotional as it was 6 years ago the day that Reginald Witherspoon (LJ's brother) was taken from us. RIP man. I look forward to their December mini-tour.

    Sevendust's Setlist:
    ===================================

    Inside
    Pieces
    ÇalClueless
    ÇalEnemy
    ÇalWaffle
    ÇalSuffocate
    Angels Son
    ÇalDenial
    Ugly
    ÇalPraise
    ÇalFace to Face

We skipped Hinder, as did most of the crowd. A few friend's stayed inside and they said there were less than 25% of the people there for Hinder that were there for Sevendust and the other bands. It was a mass exodous the second the lights went on after Sevendust.

Overall, not a bad Real Rock event. It was a good time, even if the sound was crap.

    26 Eki 2008, 01:07 yazan Tuba_Tom

What was the last concert you attended?
Amon Amarth/ Ensiferum/ Belphegor/ The Absence @ The House of Blues in Chicago, 10/13/08

    How many people were there?
i dunno, a few hundred at least

What bands have you seen in concert the most, and how many times?
Haste the Day (when Jimmy was still the singer)- 7 times
    Black Label Society- 6 times
Still Remains- 5 times (b/c they played with Haste the Day a lot)
    Umphrey's McGee- 4 times
    Demiricous- 4 times

Do you have any set lists? From what bands?
the actual physical set list that the band had taped to the floor or wherever? No. I do have a ton of set lists that I wrote down from different bands at Bonnaroo each year, both Tool shows, and Amon Amarth.

Are there any CDs in close proximity to you? Which ones?
hundreds. I shan't name them all.

What band are you in the mood to see live right this second?
Tool (I'm always in the mood to see them, so I suppose they don't count), Amon Amarth, Phish, Yonder Mountain String Band, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Amorphis

Have you ever been on a tour bus?
    nein.

Have you ever partied with a band?
A famous band? No. A band? Many a time.

How many states/provinces have you been to concerts in?
    5. Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Ohio, Washington D.C.

What bands did you see live the month of May
hmmm. I'm not sure I went to any concerts in May.

What CD are you addicted to at the moment?
Amon Amarth- Twilight of the Thunder God

Who is one band that you used to like, but now you can't stand?
    AFI definitely.

Have you ever been on anyone's guest list? Who's?
    nein.

Last band person that you got a picture with?
I've met tons of bands, but i've never had the foresight to bring a camera for a picture.

Do you consider yourself a groupie?
    uhhh no.

If you were to name a boy and a girl after any band....what would you name them?
i dunno....I could be boring and say Rodrigo (boy) and Gabriela (girl), but I'm gonna go with Reverend Peyton (boy) and Big Damn (girl).

How old were you when you went to your first concert?
7 for a concert with my Ma, 14 for my first unsupervised concert

    Who was it?
7- Tom Petty, 14- MxPx (gay), Orgy, The Offspring, Disturbed, and Incubus.

Are you wearing a band shirt right now?
of course I am, Grateful Dead shirt over a Bob Marley shirt.

What band do you own the most merch of?
who knows, I have soooooo many band-related shirts and things. I'd guess Tool, Grateful Dead, or The Agony Scene.

What song is on your myspace right now?
i dunno, i never visit my myspace anymore. It's probably something like "song has been deleted by artist" or some shit.

Have you ever met that band?
    ---

Do you ever do anything crazy at shows?
not usually, but it depends what's in me and who I'm with.

What are your favorite venues to go to shows at?
the Bonnaroo Farm, The Lawn at White River, Egyptian Room

What band do you have the most performance pictures of?
who knows. I take hundreds of pictures at Bonnaroo every year, so probably a band that's played there more than one of the times I've been there.

Would you ever get a tattoo representing a band?
    waaaay ahead of ya.

How many concerts do you average a year?
the last couple of years I'd say I've been to 10-15 per year, but all during high school and my first couple years at Uindy I probably went to at least 25-30 per year.

    Upcoming shows?
Widespread Panic (Nov.5), The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band/ The Avett Brothers (Nov.21), The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band (homecoming show, 12/26), Ricky Skaggs (May 2)

  • That thing everyone does (Top 50)

    19 Eki 2008, 18:16 yazan StarsOnlyHope

    1. What's your favorite song by 14?
    Norah Jones: ÇalCold Cold Heart

    2. How did you get into 20?
Michael Cavanaugh: He was the original pianist/singer in Movin' Out and when I got the soundtrack he was on it. That's all of his I've listened to though.

    3. Who is your favorite member in 8?
Avenue Q Cast: Um...I'll go with my favorite character, which would be Gary.

    4. Whats your favorite lyric bit by 27?
Bo Bice: I actually only know his covers from his American Idol days, none of his original stuff. So, uh,
"And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin' when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neighborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?"

    5. Have you ever seen 22 live?
Billy Joel: Nope. I know someone who has though.

    6. What's your favorite album from 10?
The M+C's: Does A Body Good

    7. Do you own any merchandise from 3?
*NSYNC: I have a videotape from McDonalds of them making a music video circa the year 2000 and of course their CDs, but that's it.

    8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
Yale Spizzwinks (?): The first time I saw them and I was chatting with one of the guys in the group and he asked me where I wanted to go to college and then told me it was a "really good school." I was amazed that someone from Yale thought that where I was looking was a good school.

    9. Is there a member of the same age as you in 2?
Jonathan Larson: There may have been someone in the most recent cast who was my age, I'm not sure.

    10. When did you first get into 1?
Peter, Paul & Mary: As a little kid listening to Puff, the Magic Dragon like any self-respecting 4-year-old.

    11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Josh Groban: My mom. My friends don't mind him, but certainly don't like him as much as I do.

    12. Which song did you first hear from 15?
Christina Aguilera: ÇalGenie in a Bottle like everyone else back in 2000.

    13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
Original Broadway Cast: I've been going to Broadway shows since I was about 7 years old and I've always loved them.

    14. Which song do you not like by 18?
    Eminem: Drips, it's unnecessarily gross.

    15. Why do you like 14's songs?
Norah Jones: They were different when they first came out. Right now I can't really listen to her anymore though because my boss over the summer listened to her CD on repeat and I'm sick of it.

    16. Where did you first hear 6?
"Weird Al" Yankovic: To be honest, I'm not sure. Sometime in middle school, and I seem to remember it involving my 5th grade boyfriend.
