texas kökenli pop rock/christian rock grubu.

2004 senesinin başında gitarist matt slocum grubun dağıldığını açıkladı ve aynı yıl son ve veda albümleri the best of sixpence none the richer yayınlandı.

matt slocum, the astronaut pushers diye bir grup kurarken, leigh nash 2006 yazında blue on blue isimli solo albümünü yayınladı.

What I meant with "it's just too bad to see a band promoting religion and religious themes through music in our time and age" is just to point out that even though there are more atheists/agnosticists than before there are still a lot of religious people out there, blinded by faith. And now, more than ever, is religion unnecessary. It's okay if they don't "rub it in your face", but religious content is still religious content. In Denmark we have a government controlled rating system on games, movies etc., much like you have in America (don't know if it's governmental). I would actually like to see a "Religious Content"-mark along with "Violence", "Drugs" and so forth. Applicable to all religions of course. In this case, the cd's would probably have to bear that mark as well, along with the more Christian groups. Maybe a "Political Content"-mark would be fair too. I know it's a sidetrack but bear with me; I just love politics :P (and a good discussion!)

heh, i get what you mean and why you're saying what you're saying, but... c'mon. can't you see that with them being christians it's pretty self explainary why they're writing the lyrics they are? of course, you're entitled to your opinion about Christianity and religion, they're entitled to their opinion about it, and they want to use their music to spread it. which i think is wonderful, especially since they're a pretty well known band. and i most certainly take their messages seriously. and lol, "it's just too bad to see a band promoting religion and religious themes through music in our time and age"... you make it sound like religion and Christianity is on the verge of being extinct. there are plenty of bands that are way more outgoing with their faith than SNtR, i've surprised a few friends when i told them that they were christians. same with Switchfoot. i like the more artistic, not-rubbing-it-in-your-face lyrics they write. so i'm not listening too much to Hillsong, heh.

I'm not saying that we, as the common listener, can't ignore these messages but some people might take these lyrics a bit more seriously, the (more or less) extreme fan for instance. A step in the wrong direction is not a mile/kilometer, but it's still a step in the wrong direction. The Pope has a page? Yeah, that's pretty fucked up. But I like to play the controversial cards and point out the opinions where people mostly disagree with me. But my thoughts on religion and Christianity are compatible on all of their levels; from SNtR to The Pope. The SNtR fans aren't all Christian but some might be. Even those of little faith should join the discussion.

Marcusml: you seem like a smart enough guy that wouldn't be swayed by the "subconscious" messages i'm sure sixpence are channeling to hundreds of defenseless listeners as we speak. i wasn't even aware they were a christian band until i joined last.fm, the adverage listener is either going to be unconcerned or, like you, unwilling to let their lafe stance changed by a pop-song. if you're looking for christians that deserve criticism i reccommend checking out the pope (seriously, why would he have a last.fm page?)

I totally agree that you should write songs about something that means a lot to you; something that is deeper than average. That's mostly great. But to me, a band writing songs with Christian themes is a way of promoting that religion. And it's okay if it means something to them, I mean, they should write whatever they want. And I seriously mean whatever they want, even if it's offensive in any way. But I just happen to be disagreeing with some of the aspects of the lyrics that could effect the listener, and maybe subconsciously make you more fond of Christianity or religion itself. It's okay to have a certain radical political view, but I always want to be able to feel bad about a right-wing extremist spreading his/her message, for instance. Not connecting extremism to Christianity - I'm just making a point. And btw, what has my life and my book reading history anything to do with this discussion? I'm not justified to make a point if I haven't read a book about it?

they don't "promote" christianity in their songs, they write about christian themes because it's part of who they are. if you want an example of music that promotes a religious stance i recommend "god hates us all" by slayer.

Ha, that's just fabulous, too religious for you in this age of apostasy? Get a life. And if you're at it, go read a book, too. Try C.S. Lewis if you're at it. Oh, sorry, mate, he's a CHRISTIAN. What could he possibly say right?

@Marcusm,.....I'm not religious myself not even christian, but I don't find there's something wrong in putting religion theme in their music. It's totally their right to choose making music that way. Just because in recent days religion has become less and less popular, doesn't mean it's a bad thing to make religious music. If you're not into religious music, then just leave it.

I'm just dissapointed because they promote religion through their music this way and that's a bad thing according to me. I'm not the hugest fan of the band, but I like a few of their songs. And yes; the music is the solely most important factor, but it's just too bad to see a band promoting religion and religious themes through music in our time and age.
