Best of the G-Funk! To 8th_Bass, obviously you were just being born when this album came out, therefore you have no clue. This album still holds up well to this day, due to Dre's amazing production. Sure, to someone who's only 18, this isn't going to sound anything like what you were introduced to, but this was most likely a huge inspiration to those albums. You can find groups like J5, who are more musically inclined, or Kanye who is somewhat of a new Dre with less gangsta, but this encapsulates an entire moment in American culture and the beginning of a new era for Rap/Hip-Hop. I don't worship the testosterone, chavenistic lyrics of this album, but the beats are amazing and the lyrics now are more entertaining and humorous to me. I'd love to see a rebirth of the G-Funk sound with lyrics pertaining to "higher" subject matter.
