Well, out of the 3 latest, FNF is definitely the best. However, it was basically half-and-half; songs like the title track, Strangler (as mentioned before), and The Mindmaker are very good cuts, but others like Departure Plan and Downfall 24 are sub-par. While I'm on the subject, FNF is actually the only album I bought. The local media store had StD, NBC, and FNF, and for some stupid reason I got the one with the black cover instead of the white. >_>

ryujijitei, i agree that their new album isn't up to their standard, and that their older stuff is much better. Personally TCM and PP are my favourite, but FNF has such awesome songs, AKA overwork. my favourite album is NBC, but stabbing the drama is really too underrated. Blind Eye Halo n the crestfallen are OWNAGE, and some of the others are decent but i havnt really listened to it in depth. best song HAS to be grand failure anthem. that song is IMBA

Well, I'm not suggesting that they should do the time warp and revert to their original style. I'm just sick of this mallcore shit they've been embracing. I admit there's a few good songs on their weaker albums (Strangler on FNF, Blind Eye Halo on StD, As the Sleeper Awakes on StaGD), they're still, overall, mediocre. The constant line-up changes don't help, and now that they're without their centerpieces, something awful could happen. So really, now I'm hoping they don't fall flat on their asses with the next album. If they keep digging their hole, they'll either hit paydirt or be eaten alive. Hopefully it won't be the latter.

I hate to remain on the "new sucks, old's better" bandwagon, but I just can't get into Stabbing the Drama or Sworn to a Great Divide. And no, it's not simply because they aren't melodeath anymore. It's simply because they sound like countless other bands who repeat the same general formula over and over again. No, those two albums aren't hopeless, as I can appreciate it's aggression and attitude, but there's not much else that I can sink my teeth into. Simply put, it's just not my taste/style. I agree with Vicinity in that they shouldn't go back to their old sound just because some fans despise their new sound- that would be similar to selling out, wouldn't it?-, and it's great that they are changing their sound, but I'm just not satisfied with the results, and it feels like a lot of what made their sound special in the beginning is gone. Now I couldn't tell them much apart from many other melodeath-influenced metalcore bands, to be honest.

I'm having real trouble understanding tards like, for an example; ryujijitei below. The band is aware of their evolvement and there is no reason for them after several albums of this "new sound" to go back to the old things. Musictaste is personal and the new sound is not worse then the old, because who is to judge? Old Soilwork is good, but I think they've reached a peak with Stabbing the drama and Sworn to a great divide.
