Amerikalı avangart rock müzik grubu.New York’ta kurulmuştur.Grunge ve alternatif müzik yapan gruplarda etkileri oldukça hissedilmektedir.1980’lerde «Confusion Is Sex» «Daydream Nation» gibi rock müzikte çığır açan albümlere imza atmışlardır.1990’larda da «Goo» «Dirty» gibi önemli albümlerle bu çizgilerini sürdürmüşlerdir.Genelikle dinlemesi zor bir müzik yapmaktadırlar.Müziklerinde uzun distortion ve doğaçlama bölümler önemli yer tutmaktadır.

from wikipedia: In August 2008, Thurston Moore stated that Sonic Youth will start recording a new studio album in November 2008, the album will arrive in Spring 2009. The band has dropped their major record label deal with Geffen, due to their last four or five albums were not commercially promoted well. There are two labels that Sonic Youth will be working with, Thurston Moore did not say what the label was, but the suspicions are either Domino Records, or Matador Records. Both of these labels also denied that they had made a deal with the band. The album is entitled "The Eternal".
