Thin Lizzy 1969 yılında İrlanda’nın başkenti Dublin’de kurulmuş bir hard rock grubudur. Grubun basçısı, şarkı yazarı ve solisti Phil Lynott 1986’da ölene kadar grubun liderliğini yapmıştır. «Whiskey in the Jar», «Jailbreak», «The Boys Are Back in Town» ve «Bad Reputation» grubun dünya çapında bilinen şarkılarıdır.

Phil Lynott’ın Thin Lizzy the Rocker: A Portrait of Phillip Lynott adlı filmdeki bir röportajda söylediği üzere Van Morrison’ın grubun üzerinde büyük etkisi olmuştur. Amerikalı gruplar Little Feat ve Bob Seger de Thin Lizzy’yi etkilemiştir. Müzikleri geleneksel folk müziği de dahil olmak üzere çeşitli türlerden etkilenmişse de çoğunlukla geleneksel hard rock veya heavy metal kategorisinde sınıflandırılır.

Her ne kadar daha evvel başkaları tarafından da kullanılmış bir teknikse de Thin Lizzy ağırlıklı olarak çift gitar armonisi kullanan ilk hard rock gruplarından biri olarak tanınır. Bu tekniğin öncülüğünü Birleşik Krallık’ta Wishbone Ash, ABD’de ise Lynyrd Skynyrd ve The Allman Brothers Band yapmıştır. Daha sonraki yıllarda Judas Priest ve Iron Maiden tarafından kullanılan bu teknik yaygın hale gelmiştir.

Grubun lideri Lynott hard rock tarzında önemli başarılar elde etmiş ende zencilerdendir. Ayrıca grubun diğer üyeleri de İrlanda’nın Katolik ve Protestan cemaatlerindendir.

Thin Lizzy müzik kanalı VH1’nın «Hard Rock’un En Büyük 100 Sanatçısı» listesinde 51. sırada yer almıştır

great Rocking Band. Just a crying shame that Phil died so young. All the great artists pop their clogs too soon. The 'Live and Dangerous' Live Album Thin Lizzy produced is a fantastic Live Album, having you listen and be entertained from start to finish.

Lynott's voice remains one of the greatest things in the history of hard rock, even to this day. He's underrated as a bass player, too.

Just watched documentary film about them - VH1 Behind the Music: Thin Lizzy. It was so sad to watch it, in the end I even started crying, 'cause Lizzy is my favourite band and Phil is my biggest idol and it was so sad to realize that Phil is dead and Thin Lizzy will never be the same again. Rest in peace, Phil, I miss you very much.

None of the band above sound anything like Lizzy, Megadeth?? If you like Lizzy try Glyder also from Ireland. Early Lizzy is a mix between Hendrix, cream , the Band and Bob Dylan. Mid 70's Lizzy is similar to wishbone ash and Boston later and Iron Maiden in places. Lizzy were the best band ever. Phil Lynott one of the great songwriters.

@Philly501. i agree. and its also a crime that "the boys are back in town" is #1 and by a longshot. they have so many more better songs.
