Kinda hard to find a modern J-Rock album that doesn't sound like a Dir en grey b-side album... Why do so many J-Rock bands try so hard to sound EXACTLY like Dir en grey? Sure, Dir en grey is amazing, but I don't understand the appeal of sounding exactly like another band... You should try to come up with your own sound.

J-Rock bands do have a distinctive sound. Atleast a lot of them. You won't hear bands from other countries that sound like them. J-Rock is not a stupid tag.

RayneDemi: I guess you could search under the Japanese tag? Or just Google a list of Japanese musicians and listen to one at random.

J-Rock doesn't sound like rock music from other countries, it's unique, this tag makes perfect sense to me.

I'm not that serious about tagging and etc. For instance, I have six japanese bands on my charts. X Japan is tagged as Power Metal (I was thinking of moving it to Speed Metal, though). Anyway, I do agree that many of them would fit into some other "rock". But I also agree that japanese bands have a differential "thing" from other bands. At least, most of them have something different.

I recommend: the GazettE, D'espairsRay, lynch.,Gackt, Phantasmagoria,ViViD, Maximum the Hormone, Nghtmare, etc. Really good bands/singers (Gackt).

I really don't even mind this tag. It's not so bad. Japanese Rock does have a very distinct, unique sound/style/look, so I don't see a problem with using the term "J-Rock." The same with Visual Kei.. BUT, I don't classify all Japanese bands as "J-Rock" by default. Bands like Melt-Banana don't really fit my interpretation of this genre..
