v OR, we could not commit mass genocide and just, you know, call them names or something. 'Eat-Me-Drink-Me' has the right idea.

However, i think that bands like Dir En Grey and the GazettE should be tagged under visual kei only. But for L'arc~en~Ciel, they should be tagged under J-rock and J-pop only, since they don't follow the visual kei movement.

IMO, i think that J-rock is not a genre. But it's just used to classify the rock music specifically produced by Japanese people. PLUS, this is just a tag, not a genre.

Hey. A couple of years ago I found a j-rock song that I absolutely loved. Then I forgot about it and now i'm desperately searching for it. The title was something like Spiral city or Spiral love or something. And the music video had a dark green and black colour scheme. I can't remember much more but the tune. If anyone can figure out what song it is, i'lld be eternally grateful!!

@Keiyuu I get your point. But it doesn't make it correct, since it's clear how it's defined by arguments that mutually exclude each other, such as it's just Japanese rock, it has a wide variety of genres and blablabla. However, as it was already pointed out, under these j-tags you'll find nothing but the same generic VK/anime related/bubblegum pop. Enough to prove that, while the term may not have been made up by the "western fangirls/boys", that ironically know nothing about Japanese rock scene, all these bollocks about "j-rock" being "so diverse and unique" were.

To all people who say there is no such thing as "J-Rock": Read this and this. As you can see, Japanese people tend to differentiate between their own rock music and rock music in general. Of course you can describe a Japanese rock band with common music classification terms without using the J-Rock term.. but it is still used, mainly in the Japanese media - same es J-Pop. Oh and also, tags ≠ genres.

Are their any Japanese Rock or Metal bands that actually have Japanese names; D'espairsRay, L'Arc~en~Ciel & DIR EN GREY don't sound Japanese to me.

It's ok to tag a genre to the region/country it's coming from, since, most of the time they've a different sound to it, that clearly distinguish them from other bands right within the same genre. Unless you are an un-organized f#g who like to throw stuff in a nutshell, to only achieve later a messed library. Ex: Finnish rock bands to American rock bands, etc. Same for Japan rock bands to the rest.

Who cares about stupid tag anyway, I have seen a lot of people tagging their music as "seen live" and "awesome" and stuff like that and a lot of people don't mind. Now since when was "seen live"a music genre I ask. People are tagging what they think about certain band but not about music genre. And if it is wrong to say J-rock, why aren't you guys trolling on K-pop tag....

I'm not even that big of a DEG fan. I think they were much better in the late 90's/early 00's. Saying that a lot of (I never said all) modern J-rock bands sound like DEG (modern DEG, which I don't even like that much) doesn't make you a DEG fanboy, it makes you objective because anyone who's objective is gonna say that a lot of songs from bands like Sadie, Screw, 12012, etc... sound like DEG songs. But of course a fanboy is never gonna say one of his favorite bands sometimes sound almost exactly like another band.

Oh hi fanboy. It's not my fault you're too much of a blind fanboy to admit to yourself that a lot of modern J-rock bands are (for the most part) Dir en grey wannabes. Being objective doesn't make me a douche. @ SilentJay: There's a difference between sounding somewhat similar and sounding almost the same. Visual Kei ≠ sounding like Dir en grey.

Well those bands you listed are bound to sound somewhat similar. They're all the same genre! (the genre being Visual Kei)

No need for profound explanations/statements, just make a compilation mixing Dir en grey songs with songs from bands like Sadie, Screw, 12012, etc... and listen to it. Even the vocals sound almost the same. Are you partially deaf or just a fanboy?
