Another band I think you might like based on some of the other stuff you listen to is Ours. Check out their major label debut, Distorted Lullabies, especially the tracks "Fallen Souls," "Here Is the Light", and "Meet Me in the Tower", or their last album, Mercy...Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy, especially the tracks "The Worst Things Beautiful", "Live Again", "Lost", and "Get Up". Lead singer Jimmy Gnecco also has a solo album, The Heart, that you might like, the songs are generally more stripped down and intimate...check out "The Heart", "These Are My Hands", and "It's Only Love".

Yeah, I've been a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins since probably before you were born! But I actually don't have that album for some reason. I really like the songs on it that I know, though, so I should probably pick it up soon. I probably should have mentioned about Scheer that you might want to check out their last album, ...And Finally, first, particularly the tracks "Deadly Serious", "Say What You Came To Say", "Mercy", and "Say The Word". And I actually just found out today that they were actually featured on a couple of compilations together with Lisa Germano back in the '90s, one called Dr. Martens: Shoe Pie, and one called Anakin. Those might be worth picking up!

That's a tough question...my musical taste is somewhat eclectic, but I've never encountered any other artists that I would say are really similar to her. She's pretty unique in my experience. If you know of any, please recommend them to me! But you could try checking out some of the people with whom she's collaborated, like on the OP8 album Slush or on Neil Finn's 7 Worlds Collide project. Those are definitely worth having. Or there are a couple of groups with female vocalists that I have a kind of similar response to even though their musical and vocal styles are completely different from Lisa's---one's a more synth-pop kind of Norwegian (but most of their songs are in English) duo called Bel Canto, and the other's a more hard rock Irish band called Scheer. Based on the other stuff in your library, I think you might like either of those. I'll definitely let you know if I can think of anything else, and please do the same for me as well!

Exactly. I had the same thought about Strange Bird, too...I mean, Dance of the Bees is interesting, but it's no Kitty Train! I think it's the juxtaposition of bitterness or vulnerability with sweetness and light that's typical of her music that appeals to me so much, and yeah, No Elephants is definitely much more on the dark end of that spectrum. Sorry to hear you can relate to that kind of vibe right now. But I just listened to the album again, and it is starting to grow on me some.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll grow on me over time, it just seemed a little disappointing after Magic neighbor, which I loved right from the very first listen. I think it's the mood or tone of the album that doesn't resonate with me as much...it just seems so unremittingly bleak. Of course, all of her albums have had a major element of darkness, especially Geek the Girl, but to balance that there has always also been beauty, and hope (and occasionally even fun!)...and these seem sorely lacking on No Elephants, or at least her attempts at them don't seem nearly as successful or convincing this time around. I don't know, maybe it's just me!

Yeah, I love Lisa, she's one of my favorites...though I have to admit, after a couple of listens, I'm still not sure how I feel about her new album. In some ways it's her most cohesive one to date and there's a lot of interesting stuff going on, but it just doesn't speak to me on an emotional level the same way as all her earlier albums do.

Not bad, not bad :) You sounds like The Smashing Pumpkins, parts: 2:10 - 3:00 and 3:45 - 5:30 are very good. But I don't like the drums at the beginning of the song is boring.

It was the best concert in my life where I was! The atmosphere was amazing, because 10% of the audience was of Polish ;) When Theresa was leaned into the crowd, she was listening questions from my friend "Why they did not come to the Polish", then Jenny said "They will be come to Poland next year". I hope so that will be true :D

Really? Wow! I thought you'd have listened to the pixies by now.. :o Hmm... they're kind of a mix of surf rock and indie, so be prepared, but it's completely awesome. I started off with tracks, not albums first for it - I really love Monkey Gone to Heaven and Hey, but if you must get an album.. Doolittle is the way to go. :) Tell me if you like them! If you don't, it's cool with me.

Hm. I'll take your word for it. I'll listen to Idioteque first then, thanks. :) The thing that would make me really happy right now is if Phoenix released another amazing album. I love Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix so much... there is no song on there I hate. (as you can see I'm listening to them right now) Curious - ever listened to the Pixies?

cool beans! that sounds great about how you make your own music. hmm... that's really hard. Once i get some good guitar pedals, I'll start experimenting. My music will be more experimental/electronic or maybe even Vampire Weekendish, I don't think I could pull off epic riffs and solos, although I wish I could. Of course the pumpkins will be my main influence, but I'll be a bit more indie sided than that. :) i'd rather be in a band than be solo, but if that doesn't work out, i'll go solo. (kind of like florence + the machine, ya know?)

yeaaa!! that makes me really happy :) that album really IS amazing, good choice. mine is rome (i know, it's a little bit on the sappy side, butttt...) do you all write songs together or is someone like billy corgan who writes it all by himself? xD lucky... my school doesn't really get into music that much. we only have about 2 serious bands in our entire school (good thing i'm leaving next year, phew!) I really look forward to making music... I've been playing piano since... when I was 3? and the guitar... a half year, so I hope i can do that over the summer. by the way, today was the last day of school for me. i didn't miss it though. and our music tastes... almost the same!?!? :o
