On January 21, Last.fm is hosting the The world's only user generated music festival , putting on shows in both London and New York City on the same day.
The Last.fm Festival's purpose is to re-create the music discovery experience its users enjoy enjoyed so much online, but this time in a live setting. To do so, Last.fm is bringing together some of the most buzzed-about bands of the past year.
Playing at New York’s famous Terminal 5 venue are Street Date & Summer Sessions alums Two Door Cinema Club and Tokyo Police Club
Ireland natives Two Door Cinema Club‘s create an infectious blend of rock and dance music that proved to be just as popular in the US and the UK, and their debut album, Tourist History, has rocketed to the top of the
Last.fm Trends Charts . When the members of Two Door Cinema Club visited the Last.fm Discover studios, in addition to playing singles like “I Can Talk,” they talked about their decision to skip university and pursue music full time. Thank goodness they did!

New York coheadliners Tokyo Police Club have been equally successful in 2010. Bandmembers Dave Monks (vocals, bass), Josh Hook (guitar, percussion), Graham Wright (keyboards, guitar, vocals), and Greg Alsop (drums, percussion) have been playing together since 2005, and it looks like all that time together has really paid off. On early albums like A Lesson In Crime and Elephant Shell, the band honed their sound and finally broke things wide open with their 2010 album, Champ. Tokyo Police Club showed up at the Last.fm Discover studios ready to rock, and showed everyone what they are all about with live versions of tracks like “Wait Up (Boots of Danger).” Check out their full performance here
For the London half of the Last.fm Festival, also on Jan. 21, The Futureheads, Young Knives and Chapel Club will take the stage at the HMV Forum

The Futureheads burst onto the UK music scene in 2004 with super hot single “Decent Days And Nights” and their cover of Kate Bush‘s classic “Hounds of Love”. Recently, their newest album, The Chaos, with single “Heartbeat Song” has established them as one of the consistently best UK artists of the decade.

The Young Knives are set to release a new album in 2011. It’s been three years since 2008′s Superabundance and we’ll see if they have some more left field pop gems up their sleeve. Their Last.fm Festival performance will hopefully feature a bunch of new songs as well as old favorites.
Last but not least, Chapel Club will open the festival in style. One of the most sought after acts this year on the indie circuit, their songs have received extensive remix treatment and translate well into a live setting.
Tickets are on sale now for both the New York and London shows on January 21, 2011. Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind event!
