While bands with "disco" in their names are in right now (Shitdisco, Disco Biscuits), more importantly, so is electro. SMD prove less can be more with minimalist big beats, a la dance-pop pioneers Technotronic. The group is known for both their original live material as well as their DJ sets.
Before their live set at club Mezzanine in San Francisco, I caught up with James Ford and Jas Shaw where we chatted about vocalist overload on their new record "Temporary Pleasures," hanging out with "Jesus" in Tijuana and why music is important.
Before you dive in, I have to apologize for the quality of audio while Jas is talking. The mic fell off of his shirt (i think) and well, towards the end it's hard to hear him talk. Sorry!!
