Slams are often very slow... it s not like a breakdown you hear in a grind band... listen to Waking The Cadaver for exapmle, they have this very slow breakdowns.

slam death metal bands are usually more breakdown-oriented than other brutal death metal. a lot of the breakdown riffs are taken directly from older bands who influenced the sound, like suffocation, dying fetus, and internal bleeding. the reason that a lot of death metal fans like myself dislike slam is that we think the songwriting is generic and unoriginal.
