Hey man, long time no speak. I wonder how much you're even still active here on Last.fm. It kinda sucks how much it's changed over the years. This was one of my favorite sites and social media platforms for a long time. I used to spend more time on here that myspace (when I used it) and Facebook but now I hardly find myself on here at all. Anyways, heard anything good lately?

Hey dude! Well i still submit all my listening every day, and i still browse the site regularly but not as much as i used to, that's for sure. I'm not discovering new music here anymore either. I feel sorry for the devs working on this site, they were obviously forced by the suits to upgrade the look of the site to the detriment of 75% of the functionality in an attempt to (i guess) stay relevant and profitable in the face of spotify etc... they're only now starting to get the site back to where it was although the damage has been done. Looking back at my most played for the last year, Vektor's album was incredible, did you check out Wrong (with former Torche/Kylesa members)? also Horisont's and Asteroid's latest LPs are fun, Oranssi Pazuzu, Demon Head and Khemmis are some of my favourite discoveries from the past couple years... you?

Yeah, this year has been pretty slow so far. I do like the new Minus the Bear, At The Drive-In, and Mutoid Man albums. I've heard Converge will be releasing something later this year and I know the new Baptists should drop sometime in August...I think. Last year was pretty good though. I was really surprised by the Norma Jean album, found myself listening to it a lot actually. Moon Tooth, Helms Alee, Gojira, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, and Obsidian Kingdom all put out really good releases in '16. Haven't really discovered anything new, just don't have the same time I used to for discovering new stuff. I had a lot of free time at my old job to discover more, but my new job really keeps me way too busy. I did come across a pretty rad 3-piece heavy rock, stoner-ish band called Waingro you'd probably like https://waingro.bandcamp.com

I'll have to check out that Elder album, that sounds right up my alley. I totally forgot about the Ruby the Hatchet album, I just started listening to them. They actually just played a show in my town a couple of months ago. The bar asked my band to open up for them but my guitarist was out of town.

Hey man, sorry for the super late reply. I've been swamped at work and traveling a lot with the company too which hasn't giving me as much time to be on this site anymore. I'm also not too fond of the new layout either. There's a lot of stuff missing...including all my top ten lists and journals. Anyways, this year has been pretty good for releases. I'm really digging the new Intronaut, BTBAM, Enabler, The Armed, Mutoid Man, Black Breath, and Kylesa albums. The only real disappointments were the Sumac release (I think I was just expecting more) and Torche album (I just couldn't get into it). How about you? Anything new and exciting to report?

Well for me the Iceage record was my albumof the year! Theyre Danish and kind of weird goth punk, but they probably dont want to described like that. Umm also the Julian Cassablancas + The Voidz record. Its like kiss! Its been an odd year, great but strange musically. I got given an old technics stereo system over christmas thats hardly been used..its like hearing stuff for the first tine... The clarity.. Lol

I think you're right on the money, QOTSA, Intronaut, All Pigs, and Baptists were all amazing. Most likely all top ten-ers for me. I was also disappointed with Kylesa's new one. The new [artist]East of the Wall[/artist] is really good. I don't think it was as good as their Apologist album from a few years back, but really good nonetheless.

Hey man. I wanted to give the head's up on [artist]Mutoid Man[/artist]. It's a side project band featuring Stephen Brodsky of Cave In and Ben Koller of Converge/All Pigs Must Die/United Nations. Super badass album to finish out this pretty stellar year for music. How did this year treat you musically?

Hey, upon reading a little more into Erosion, it turns out that it's the drummer and guitarist from Baptists side band and they switched instruments for the project. It makes sense, the drumming on the album is good, but I noticed it wasn't as insane as Textbook/Baptists.

Hell yeah, that Erosion album was a nice find, good looking out. I've been digging the new [artist]Arsonists Get All The Girls[/artist], and [artist]Old Gods[/artist] albums lately. You must also check out [artist]Nice Hooves[/artist]. Super awesome chaotic hardcore featuring members of [artist]The Armed[/artist]. Their album is a free download @ http://nicehooves.bandcamp.com/. It will most likely make my top ten.

Listening to Widowspeak on Rdio now. You'd almost swear it was Hope Sandoval! I love it so thanks. Funny the 6 other bands lastfm say they sound like, I haven't heard of any of them before. Have you used Rdio? Its great. Rodriguez is very Dylan I guess. His songs are addictive and catchy but also quite varied in style.

Yeah, I've heard those 2 Intronaut songs, Milk Leg sounds massive. I can't remember anticipating an album as much their new one. Another one that should be great in 2013 is the project called Palms featuring Chino of Deftones and members of Isis. That one should be out late spring. Also, have you heard this unreleased Torche song? (https://soundcloud.com/230mp3/torche-harmonslaught) I don't know if they're recording another album or anything, but if so, I hope they write more tunes like this!

I heard that Old Man Gloom album from last year, but I reckon I must give a few more spins to really sink in. Hell yeah on getting Tool tickets. I wish they'd tour more. I saw them a few years back in Seattle. Fantastic show they put on, musically and visually as well. They really put on quite a live production. Have fun!

What's up buddy! Just wanted to give you a heads up about the new [artist]Baptists[/artist] album called Bushcraft featuring Nick Yacyshyn (the drummer from A Textbook Tragedy). Crust influenced hardcore in the vein of Converge. The album was produced by Kurt Ballou of Converge. Super awesome heavy album. I can't stop listening to it. Let me know if you'd like a link.

heheh, thanks for accepting. I was meaning to send you a message, sorry. Not sure if you'd remember me but I was MotherBuzz. I changed accounts and we did have a much higher "compatibility" rating before... guess I haven't listened to enough yet

Definitely a win! yep, I am a frequent last.fm user - in fact I guess you could say I'm mildly obsessed with the site. ;) I like to contribute gig reviews, and I also run my own artist page here so have a lot to do with that.

Hey man, have you heard that "Pigs - You Ruin Everything" album yet? (http://solarflarerds.bandcamp.com/album/you-ruin-everything) Crazy, weird, cool, noisy, heavy, punk-ish, sludge-core, or some shit like that. Either way, I've been listening to it a lot lately and thought you might like it. It's all over the place on music blogs. Check it out.

I agree that the new Narrows is way too short. It's so awesome though. Final Mass sounds like a TAAS song with Botch vocals. I haven't heard the new Torche yet. I'm sure I'll love it. I love everything they've done so far. I wasn't aware of a new Intronaut album. That's fantastic news. The new Mars Volta is pretty good. Tuned down drum sound though. I wish the new drummer was a little more busy. They're music is made for intricate drumming. Good album nonetheless. 2012 is gonna be quite a year for sure.

Hey man. It's been forever! This year's been really hit & miss with me so far. I'm really loving the new [artist]Manchester Orchestra[/artist] album Simple Math. Probably my favorite so far. The new [artist]...and you will know us by the trail of dead[/artist] is pretty good as well. You might like the [artist]MonstrO[/artist] album featuring the guitarist from Torche. Very 80's hard rock/metal vibe to it. Other ones I like so far are albums from [artist]vessels[/artist], [artist]Helms Alee[/artist], [artist]Light Bearer[/artist], [artist]Idol and The Whip[/artist], [artist]Jack and the Bearded Fisherman[/artist] and [artist]Arsonists Get All The Girls[/artist]. How 'bout you? Anything I need to know about?

I don't have those albums yet but I might need to get them very soon. I downloaded the free JTE song off the bloodshot site. Not bad.

Perhaps you should try the 'We Are Only Riders - The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project' There is a Sadies song on it. I'm listening to it now.

Haven't heard it. In fact I haven't heard much of them at all except one song off We Are Only Riders, the Jeffrey Lee Pierce project thing, which is great. I will track it down based on your recommendation though. Thanks!

Other than having to go back to work tomorrow, I'm just fine. Just got back from a ski trip to Queenstown NZ which was so much fun.....still in one piece. Have you ever been there? Astonishing mountain ranges just to look at let alone ski on. Unbelievable really. The Queenstown to Glenorchy drive must be one of the prettiest on the planet!

I've listened to the new Minus the Bear a ton of times hoping it'd grow on me but it just hasn't. I just can't get into it. To me it's boring & uninventive compared to their other albums. I can see how it's been getting popular & more attention from the mainstream though. I think that's what they were shooting for with this album.

The new [artist]Gifts From Enola[/artist] is super good for a heavy instrumental record. But I've been super disappointed with 2010's releases so far as well. I've never heard of White Hills, I'll be sure to check it out. I've seen the the Loma Prieta & Kvelertak albums all over the place but have yet to check them out yet either. I still think the new Portugal the Man, Medications, and Murder by Death are my favorites so far.

Yeah this year has been bland for sure. The new [artist]Rosetta[/artist] should be good though. I think it's due out later this month. As far as the band, I think it's hopelessness and lack of motivation. He's actually a really good bassist and he's a very humble guy. Small town guy with small town dreams.
