I'm kinda crazy- I drive up to Seattle at least once weekly, sometimes twice. Often during the traffic times that will make it take 2.5 hours instead of 40 minutes. (I drive fast.) Though not so much right now due to Snowmageddon 2010. Only 5-6 total inches, but our infrastructure for dealing with it sucks so crazy accidents are happening everywhere and people are taking 7 hours to make a 20 minute commute. Alda is local and very small time. They are unsigned and I think their tape/cd distro is only at shows. Not sure that recorded is as heavy-hitting as live, but it looks like you can download their full-length here: http://canalla-metal.blogspot.com/2010/02/alda-alda-2009.html

O I just figured out you are not actually in the Bay Area, but just travel there for shows. I'm not actually in Seattle, but my bf is, so I'm there a lot. It's only a 50 mile drive, but on that stretch of I-5 that can take up to 2.5 hours, sometimes more when it's really bad.

I think you already missed the Watain show in the Bay Area. My friend Pranjal was there and he said there was a juggalo in the audience. Here in Seattle we had an asian guy doing the Seig Heil, and with such skill that he clearly had done it many times, not just once as a joke. Yeah, Agalloch plays live shows so rarely that it's a real treat to see them. I like them just fine, but my main motivation for going to that show is actually for one of the opening bands, Alda. It's interesting to me that they speak to me so much more deeply than the Agalloch, when that band is one of their major inspirations. BTW I get down to the Bay Area a couple of times a year, sometimes more. I try to coordinate it with a good show or two, but generally no matter when I go the heavy metal finds me, mostly because of the company I keep.

It's quite possible that I listen to better music than you. It's almost assured that my taste is more diverse than yours. Deal with it.

Types of music I enjoy (especially when artists combine different ones) include, but are not limited to experimental, progressive, minimalism, ambient, downtempo, industrial, martial, neofolk, folk, classical, orchestral, anarcho punk, crust punk, grindcore, sludge, traditional/funeral doom, stoner rock, underground old-school black metal/death metal, thrash, electronic, electronica, dub step, gabber, breakcore, glitch, 8-bit/chiptune, synthpop, trip hop, deathrock, gothic rock, darkwave, indie rock/pop, post-rock, post-industrial, post-punk, new wave, No Wave, shoegaze, noise, alternative rock, grunge, underground hip hop, jazz, blues, psychedelia, prog rock, folk rock, folk metal, folk punk, older pop, and...well, lots of older music, and lots of other stuff. I'm obsessed with music. Collecting it, learning about the history/evolution of it, etc.
