Well, the week ending the twenty third anyway. See, I'm still being clever by writing the numbers with words. I am still cool.

10. Rise Against
I think I learnt of these guys in maybe….2003? My workmate at the time, Alex (who is a complete and utter munter by the way), was discussing Rise Against with me and told me I had to listen to Broken English. For the first time ever, I took his advice and listened to it. I've been hooked ever since.
May I just say that was a big leap of faith for me, considering Alex was someone who got completely mangled up drunk most weekends and ended up getting his face cut by a bottle because he was a drunk bastard and probably got smart to someone bigger than him.
What a shame it wasn't me who got to cut him. Anyway, onward!
Usually I hate crossover artists. People that go from movies to music or vice versa generally suck ass. But I'm pretty happy Jared Leto went and did that. Sure, their new album is kind of emo, but I don't mind it too much. I enjoy the older stuff a la Capricorn and Edge of the Earth immensely.
And I just have to say the man looks bloody hot, with or without eyeliner.
There's a reason these guys feature on my top ten often. It's because they kick ass. Josh Homme is the man, despite being a ginga. There's something sexy about him when he gets that Elvis lip snarl going on. And how about that? Just as I'm writing about QOTSA, The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret comes on. It has to be fate.
Hangin' Tree was a favourite of mine this week. Ain't nothing like Mark Lanegan growling over a track to make your knees weak. Seriously.
7. Incubus
I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the new album Light Grenades. The track Anna Molly from the aforementioned album is pretty decent. It just seems a bit like they're selling out with every new album, imho. I love S.C.I.E.N.C.E. so much. Funky, rocking, with great lyrics, Brandon Boyd really knew what he was doing back then. The later albums just seem full of old cliches, A Crow Left of the Murder in particular.
That is not to say I despise them, I still enjoy immersing myself in Incubus. Each album has a few songs on it that transport me back to being a teenager, both the good times and those I'd much rather forget. This weeks listening, I believe, was solely for nostalgia purposes.
6. Garbage
I haven't listened to Shirley Manson whisper huskily through the speakers to me in ages. Version 2.0 was the album du jour. Another one that takes me back to teenage years. Temptation Waits and Wicked Ways were favourites this week.
And I don't care what anyone says. Version 2.0 is a great album, damnit!
I don't know if Billy and the gang will ever stay out of my top ten. I just manage to find something new and amazing everytime I listen to them. Keep in mind that I'm listening to music that's over ten years old now.
I think that you know a band/artist is fantastic when you can do that. Bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains are still managing to keep me in awe ten years later.
Ah, Trent Reznor, you're one talented, sexy mofo. The back catalogue for NIN is so huge you forget how good some songs are. Songs like Ruiner. That track is teh secks.
Not unlike The Pumpkins, I don't think Chris will be leaving my top ten anytime soon. Euphoria Morning is stunning, and with rumours of a new solo album, I only hope he can top his earlier solo effort.
2. Foo Fighters
I blame work for getting the Foo's this high. I don't have an ipod, or any sort of mp3 player (how retro am I?) so I have to listen to the radio at work. Well, I did until someone broke the aerial. So recently I've been taking my cd's to work. Seeing as I have all of the Foo Fighters albums on CD, it's only sense that I would end up listening to them eventually.
I'd forgotten how much I loved One by One and There is Nothing Left to Lose. Tired of You, Disenchanted Lullaby and MIA got me singing along this week.
I think the first ever Chili's album I ever owned (poperly) was Californication. If I recall correctly, my Aunty Tracey gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Needless to say that Xmas/New Year period resulted in a lot of family members getting sick of me singing at the top of my lungs to songs like Easily and I Like Dirt.
I was such a cool kid.
