The Census Taker seems pretty difficult to find online (I only came across it by accident & I've forgotten the link!) but you can find their collab with Renaldo & The Loaf at the filthysick blog (the LP's called Title In Limbo / Turtle In Lima) btw. Only portions of it have ever been reissued on CD I think? Download ahoy!

A-ha! I'm only just familiarising myself with stuff like The Replacement (& The Census Taker, have you heard that?) 'cos they were totally unavailable to 10 year old me way back then! As you rightly point out, their concepts back then were so (genuinely) SURREAL (overused word, I know) & strange, I always found them very unsettling as a band (which I guess was the point) - stuff like Tweedles (which I'd heard was bad) is abit vaudevillian for my tastes! Yesssss, have got a rip of Subterranean Modern somewhere (would love an original, the sleeve'sa beaut!). Have you heard the LP they did with Renaldo & The Loaf, that's a v.strange one also...?

Oh yeah, as you said, Not Available IS a fantastic LP. It took me sometime to get into it as a nipper (probably 'cos it's a much more "serious" work thanany of their other stuff at that point) but I think it's probably one of their finer works in retropsect (that & Eskimo). Didn't somebody use it as a score for a ballet or something...?

Oops, apologies for the delay (I haven't been on here in ages). Guess I'm a fan of The Rezzie's early works because listening to that stuff reminds me of being a snotty, misanthropic kid hiding out in my room & smug in the knowledge that everybody was listening to "99 Red Balloons"! I lost interest in them a little bit when they went digital - I realise that's a bit of a luddite thing to say but I just love the stitched-together sound of their earlier period (The Third Reich & Roll sounds like it's held together with Post-It notes FFS!). Fingerprince is my absolute fav I think (did I mention that already?) - esp. the CD issue with the extra tracks (i.e. "side 3") - some of that stuff's outstanding. Also, they seem to release so many albums now that I honestly wouldn't know where to start with the later stuff - any clues...?

Hmmm. I don't think I've heard anything as recent as Gingerbread man by SOME distance. I kinda stopped listening to them around the time of Freak Show which I consider "recent" but is actually YEARS ago isn't it? Was very surprised to find their very earliest recordings (The Warner Bros Album, etc) out the 'net recently - I suspected that they'd made all that stuff up to mess with record collectors' minds but, nope, it's definitely out there - is NOTHING sacred...? (!)
