Air Traffic - 25/9/07 - Electric Ballroom

Tue 25 Sep – Air Traffic

This has actually been one of the most inspirational concerts I have been to in a long time
There arent many bands that I will go through brutal toe-breaking, breath-lacking conditions for in my old age . But Air Traffic are 'up there' amongst those of Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire and Bloc Party in my 'seen live' books.

Their support was ok I thought but maybe could have been better. Paul Steel really set the mood, and the second band, who I don't actually know the name of really got the crowd going with their Scottish charm

So Air Traffic appeared on stage to a roar of cheers and a frantic push to the front and if I may say so myself, put on a jolly good show. Their carefully put arrangement of up-tempo and slow songs were great, interspersed with BRILLIANT new songs!

The highlight for me was definitely No More Running Away. Jim and Tom accompanied Dave on extra sets of drums throughout the verses and first chorus. But it was really when the guitars and bass kicked in and everyone was chanting 'No More Running Away' that it got emotional. Definitely a highlight.

There were a couple of moments when singing your heart out was mandatory for example the middle 8s in Time Goes By and I Can't Understand. The perfect piano/Chris solo's in the middle 8's were potentially heart gripping and tearjerking! I think I gripped my friends arm on more than one occassion

Chris strolled back onto the stage, laptop in tow, for the encore, in which he performed a solo of Empty Space, which was, of course, one of the most amazing things I have seen close up in a long time. At the end of the song, amidst the silence, my friend Heather remarked 'AMAZING', to which Chris gave a cheeky little grin.

And of course what did they end with? Shooting Star. This song was the PERFECT end to the show. Everyone was singing along and it was the most emphatic moment I've experiences since seeing Arcade Fire a month ago. It was the most uplifting experience, and I never wanted it to end. I'd have to say it was one of the best performances I've seen. Even though Lucy cracked her foot during this song

I never wanted to leave - I could have been caught in that moment forever and could listen and love them for eternity! Watch out for their new material, its great! Keep it up guys! We love you Chris, Jim, Tom and Dave! AMAZING!
