My Top 5 Albums of 1997

1997

#5: Shania Twain - Come On Over
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61OrWxtR29L._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Shania's third album was probably her most successful, so much so that an international version was released with subtle remixes. This album is great for the occassional country fan, or those that prefer country-pop over traditional country. One thing I like most about this album is that it includes the original version of "From This Moment On", which was a duet with Bryan White. I prefer this version over the single version that was Shania's vocals only. It also includes the singles "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!", "Love Gets Me Every Time", "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)", "Honey, I'm Home", "That Don't Impress Me Much", and the title track, as well as the massive hit "You're Still The One". Fantastic record from beginning to end.

#4: Hanson - Middle Of Nowhere
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51WFNuStilL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
I loved these guys from day one. The first time I saw the video for "MMMBop", I just thought they were fantastic. I bought this CD soon after, and it instantly became a favorite. Other than "MMMBop", my favorite songs are "Speechless", "I Will Come To You", "Madeline", and "Where's The Love". These are super talented guys with very catchy, melodic songs that anyone should be able to enjoy…as long as you don't have your head up your ass and think you're too good for pop music.

#3: Martina McBride - Evolution
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51aVMj6AnpL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
You know those albums that you instantly fall in love with just from one listen? This was one of those albums for me. It's by far my favorite of Martina's, and this album made her one of my vocal idols. I really feel that she did her best and gave it her all with this one. It includes the huge hit "A Broken Wing", as well as "Whatever You Say", "Still Holding On" (with Clint Black), and "Valentine" (with Jim Brickman). My personal favorites are "Be That Way", "Some Say I'm Running", "Wrong Again", and "I Don't Want To See You Again".

#2: Aerosmith - Nine Lives
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51TCXHNN0SL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
In my opinion, this was Aerosmith's last really good album. Every track is typical Aerosmith greatness. My favorite is "Ain't That A Bitch", followed closely by "Hole In My Soul" and "Full Circle". "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)", "Taste Of India", and the title track are also fantastic…and let's not forget "Pink"!! Other than "Jaded" and the title track from their next album (Just Push Play) and "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" from the Armageddon soundtrack, I don't think Aerosmith has been on top since this album.

#1: Green Day - Nimrod
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51-BRpoB67L._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Even if you're not a Green Day fan, you at least know one song from this album - "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)". And hopefully there are enough people who bought the album just because of that song and ended liking the rest of it. Because this album is superb! My favorite track on here is "The Grouch", but I also love "Hitchin' A Ride", "Nice Guys Finish Last", "Worry Rock", "Redundant", and "Walking Alone"…just to name a few. And if you've ever seen them live, you're probably familiar with "King For A Day" ;) (By the way…see them live if you have a chance…they're the best!)

Honorable Mentions: Mindy McCready - If I Don't Stay The Night, Fleetwood Mac - The Dance, Sherrie Austin - Words, Amy Grant - Behind The Eyes, Chely Wright - Let Me In, Foo Fighters - The Colour And The Shape, Garth Brooks, Sevens, Regina Regina - Regina Regina, Savage Garden - Savage Garden, Spice Girls - Spiceworld, Belinda Carlisle - A Woman And A Man, Slaughter - Revolution
